Meh, tariffs are a tool. Resisting a "global" economy and encouraging more LOCAL and decentralized economies. Chinamart and alibaba prices go up, but American made (tariff-free) alternatives would likely spring up. And a tariff on Canada and Mexico is a non-starter.
If Trump is smart he will offset the foreign tariff by lifting the US TAXATION yoke. If he keeps his word: No tax on tips, No tax on social security, No tax on overtime, Tax deduction for elderly care, Tax deduction for Auto loan interest, Tax deduction increased for dependents. He's even considering exempting active-duty military, veterans, police and firefighters from paying any income taxes at all. We'll see if any of these actually happen.
Any taxation at all is still and always will be theft. But stealing LESS is better than stealing MORE. And if the government MUST steal, then it would make more sense to steal from THEM and not US. We don't have to buy from China, we just like how cheap their slave labor is!
