So I have noticed a few people on Steemit (not a lot of people, but a few) don't like immigrants, and I just wanted to point something out, then ask a question.
I moved to Austin, Texas around February of this year and one of the first things I noticed was the number of Homeless people. There are a huge number of Homeless people in Austin, and I give them change whenever I happen to be driving on whatever side of the road they are on and I am at a stoplight, I even had a ziplock bag with like $50-$60 in change when I got here, and it was gone in about 1 week.
But you know what I didn't see, any Homeless Mexicans or Hispanic people (I am 1/4 Mexican btw). There may be some, but they aren't at the Stoplights begging. And if they do go stand out somewhere, they don't ask for money, they sell things. On Valentine's Day I saw a bunch of Mexican women at gas stations along the highway, all selling the same Valentine's Day gift baskets. And I have seen people selling oranges and water and soda.
Sure, Hispanics might take some Factory Jobs, or Carpentry Jobs and stuff like that, but they are better at it and more proud to do it than most White people.
And the question I have, is, how many White people do you know who could even make corn like this without having to look up how to do it?
Because Austin wouldn't even be the same without all the Food Trucks and Taco Stands and Chorizo everywhere, and the Carnicerias (Meat Markets). And that's just Austin, Southern California wouldn't be the same without Carne Asada and Avocados.
The Great American Boycott (Spanish: El Gran Paro Estadounidense, lit. "the Great American Strike") was a one-day boycott of United States schools and businesses by immigrants in the United States, of mostly Latin American origin that took place on May 1, 2006.
reason you don't see any immigrant homeless people is very simple, they took on a dangerous journey out of a poverty ridden area to WORK in America. Because it's just that much easier to find a job, even if it's bad pay in America.
I really liked your story ! And that corn on a stick looks delicious! Whats on it, I want one! Yummy, ! 😋😉👍also im going to follow you now, for more awesome stories!
There are lots of different recipes, it's called Mexican Corn on the Cob, just look it up and you can pick a recipe that has stuff you want on it.
And I definitely have some stories. I have lived in Texas, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico and Mexico and lots of stuff has happened along the way. So I'll post about all of it at different times.
Here in the uk the "we dont like immigrants thing" gets lots of press and was probably the main reason people voted to leave the EEC. I put it down to lack of education as economically migrant workers produce more in tax revenue than they gain in benefits.
Where I live on the east coast, there are many seasonal workers from Portugal. The culture and cooking they bring is fabulous, its the best coffee and pastry shop in town and far less expensive than the regular chain of coffee shops.
