Let the trade wars begin

Nobody can truly say this was unexpected. This administration has been a hurricane cat 5 almost from day one, and at this point damages are to be expected.

The one who foots the bill

I think I've been very clear that I'm not completely unaware of why tariffs exist, what is supposed to be their function. But, I also happen to understand that they can't be seen as the only way to fix trade deficits.

The main problem I have with this direction we are taking is that the people who are going to be hurt by it are not the ones making the calls. To billionaires, to millionaires, eggs doubling in price would be a minor discomfort, but the opposite is the case for the average American family.

At the end of the day we are headed towards crazy inflation, and even though the MAGA crowd fought against the elevating cost of living in the Biden years, they seem to remain silent now. Who'da thunk it?

What if we win bro bro?

Some of the most reasonable people on Trump's side seem to be suggesting the idea that we are likely to make Canada bend a knee, and thus win this economical battle very soon.

Even if I was to grant them the possibility that Canada would bend a knee, whatever that means, let me ask you, ask anyone who is buying into the idea of "defeating Canada" the following.

Since when is Canada our enemy?

Last I remember Canada is not only our friend, but it's a country full of kind people, so kind in fact that there are thousands of jokes about this very fact.

Brace for impact

Unlike other economic moves the administration might make, entering a trade war with our neighbors will have almost inmediate consequences.

I fully expect a phone call from my family this week describing the horror. My own brother has been talking lately about moving out of Florida, due to the cost of living, and these events might just push him over the edge after all.

MenO

I've been waiting months for some discounted stocks FINALLY!

It's about dividing people, though, isn't it? Setting them against each other.

that's the plan... divide us, loot the treasury while we fight

The real failure has nothing to do with tariffs. It's failing to end income taxes. Ending income taxes would turn the US into THE tax haven for productive commerce. It's hardly conceivable how fast production would move to the US were income taxes to be eliminated here.

Adding tariffs to income taxes is the actual opposite of what Trump promised Americans, and instead of unprecedented prosperity eliminating income taxes would achieve, we are instead being financially spit roasted by taxing both income and outgo.

Thanks!

He's taxing us on top of taxing us... it's a formula for pain.. you are right, I believe, but I doubt he will move towards abolishing the IRS. That is a pipe dream at this point.

The main problem I have with this direction we are taking is that the people who are going to be hurt by it are not the ones making the calls.

Tariffs: ¿The New American Dream for the US of A goods importers?
