Security Tips & Tricks in the Age of Cray Cray

in #politicsyesterday
Cyber Attacks, Random Stabbings, Neo-Nazis and Political Polarization, you name it, its all happening in 2025, not to mention all the wars going on, well, at least they seem to be cooling down, seemingly and hopefully, but like it or not, we live in crazy times people! And you know what you need when you live in crazy times? A little bit of internet safety savvy.

My heart goes out and deep condolences to the all the victims of not only the antisemitic attacks we have had around my home state of New South Wales, but also abroad, to all the victims of the various attacks we have had in both Germany & New Orleans.

We must not, cower in fear, from living our lives like normal people however, this is how terrorists, or those with a terrorist mind set win, we must stand tall, in who we are and what we do, but we must also be savvy, the best place to start is by making sure your online security is the best you can.

Proper Internet Security

• Run a full Suite, of all services offered, by a reputable anti-virus provider, AVG, Norton, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus,
Avast One, F-Secure, Trend Micro, Malwarebytes, Avira

But for the love of goodness, don’t run McAffee, even he, said he hates his software, how to uninstall it? I believe he recommended burning the computer, I don’t know, it might be alright these days but it was a meme and an annoyance to every internet user for at least a decade, at the end of the day, do your own research, and if you cant afford to pay for a full suite complement, do your best to piece together a mix and match of all free options available to try and be as best you can, running on low finances.

Use a Quality ISP

• Quite popular to hate the man, but Starlink is quite reliable, think what you want about the person, the company, an offshoot of SpaceX offers an extremely reliable and robust service that is Satellite based, with an individual such as that, at the help, you will have no issues about free speech or privacy, also, should something terrestrial ever happen, satellites can be moved, I will say however, any satellite based internet service provider, should be what you are looking for.

That way, should any sort of geo-political conflict happen, the emergent space-force off the united states, will be able to protect your connections to keep your infrastructure going, and ok, hate the dude, by all means, that's free speech, but even he is on the record as saying, if there is someone better to be CEO thats possible, so will he be the CEO forever? no, logic and reason, mind you, us Plutonian's do have some very interesting technology Martians that does make you live a considerable amount longer :) only in the thought experiment stages at the moment of course, but rome wasnt built in a day as they say, we can talk about that on a fly by past mars one day, we are not landing, five minutes of terror is for real bruh, land on the moon, yeah, I am not going down there though, your atmosphere is a bitch, and your gravity sucks, don't like it, not my cup of tea, am i the dude? no, i use his bloody internet and have never spoken to him in my life, the internets good, Someone else want to put satellites up there and provide internet, probably would switch, if its a faster service and at a better price point, thats free market economy, i am not a musk fanboy, the guy is pretty smart, invented a lot of cool things, i cant not, respect that, academically, on the merits, of the things.

Backup Power

)

• Lets not forget, Nazis are crazy, and evil, and will try all sorts of things to hurt you and those you love, power, being one of them, I would suggest going into your local relevant store and looking for backup battery power systems, they are not to expensive and will really help that food in your fridge, lights on, or otherwise in an emergency, there are also car adaptors you can buy, to turn your own car you park in the driveway into a makeshift petrol or diesel based power station, just make sure you take the car for a spin or rev the engine to keep the alternator recharging the battery? Cant do that? Well, you can probably go to your local hardware store, such as a Bunnings and purchase some solar panels, and a recharging cable? Don’t know how to get all that to work, you probably have a not crazy neighbour that lives around you, that is a handyman, and can help you out, if not, google it, there are tutorials for everything, and what’s the worst that can happen right? Probably blow up your car or something … but hey, just check stuff before you connect it, and if not, you know … run, really fast.

Car Insurance

• Compare the market, and find the best option for you, don’t worry about brand loyalty and such when finances are tough, just make sure you are at least third party property covered, as of time of writing, Budget Direct offer the cheapest options available in Australia, and, their customer service operators have some of the cutest voices in the country, what not to love?

False Locations

• While we must stand firm and unfearful in the face of terrorism and violent criminal acts, I totally understand some people, for whatever reason may need a bit more security, if you are one of those people, change your online presence to different locations and different towns, personally, I don’t let Terrorists dictate my life, or Nazis, metaphorically speaking I have a very special place for them in Hell so I don’t yield, but, if you have to for security reasons, use a different town, don’t mention things that are places you are going to be, or do, or what not, as the evil bastards will probably use that to try and track you.

And a variety of other things! but this is already getting to be a rather long article, and let’s face it, no one reads long form much these days, be smart, be safe, and most of all, Down with Nazis 😊
