Adam Kokesh is running for President and seeking to be the Presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party for 2020. The first time I met @AdamKokesh was October of 2016, not long after I restarted up the Young Americans for Liberty chapter at the University of Houston. Adam was the first speaker we were able to hold and ultimately was one, if not the best speaker we've hosted. I still remember the week leading up to the day Kokesh was scheduled to speak in Houston. I decided to read the book he wrote while he was in prison. FREEDOM! by Adam Kokesh opened my eyes to what the message of Libertarianism and Freedom truly is.
I never truly understood the statement "Taxation is Theft." In my opinion, I thought, "no taxation without representation?" and now we have representatives so it's okay, right? I thought Libertarianism was in essence, limited government in a constitutional sense. The idea of self-ownership never hit me until I read FREEDOM! The true ideas of private property never hit me until I read FREEDOM! After reading this book I was forced to examine my view of government and politics. Every day since then I could no longer ignore that everything the government did, while promising to protect individual rights, actually eventually violated individual rights.
Since October of 2016, Kokesh had returned back to Houston 2 more times and ended up giving me a box of his book, FREEDOM! While participating in activism I have passed out FREEDOM on campus at University of Houston and throughout the city of Houston. Young Americans for Liberty at the University of Houston and Houston NORML always give out free copies of Adam's book to all of our members and at all of our meetings. I even took a philosophy of peace and war class while in college. Throughout the class, I constantly used and cited Adam's book as a source for my views on war, self-defense, and self-ownership. Surprisingly my professor was highly interested in the ideas I brought up from Adam's book. Many times she would ask me for a Libertarian perspective in the classroom. I always knew my professor was a socialist or at the very least a leftist. According to one of her former students, she was a self-proclaimed communist but was always open to the new and freedom-oriented perspective I would write about. One of the sections of class I was forced to use Adam's book to explain the idea of the Non-Aggression Principle. The section was questioning when it was and was not okay to use force and violence. It seemed like none of the material we covered said anything about the morality and relationship between self-ownership and self-defense. In the end my professor was left very impressed and wanting to learn more about Adam Kokesh.
NOW!
