Your thinking is heading in the right direction - but it's a far more ambitious a project than that...
Free market structures - and ethos - cannot operate in an oligarchical system - it's just the illusion of it being so.
Hive is oligarchcial in structure.
DPOS - in it's current form - will not endure - in my opinion (History would indicate that I'm correct).
Ergo, change the structure...

Right now, it's about organizing numbers. (I'm not collectivist - but in an oligarchy, collectivism (power) is required to establish a more free market environment.
I'll take the flak, but support - if there is enough - is essential to implement any changes.
Power comes through organization. This is needed to change from an oligarchy - to a meritocracy (of sorts).
'The have's' - the oligarchy - will not give away there stranglehold willingly. (nepotism etc).
I have faith in free markets expressing - and rewarding , talent, originality, and ingenuity.
I have no faith in oligarchs acting in any other way than to try to solidify their own positions. (maintain the status quo).
Big fish - the oligarchy - are swimming ,and ruling, in a small bowl (Hive) . It's defensive, and insular, in nature.
I want to alter the mindset - and thus the structure - one way or another.
