I’ve watched with pain how potential valuable relationships are going up in flames on social media and the camp of progressives appear thrown into helpless disarray and simply couldn’t help themselves. These are relationships that have beautiful economic, social, political, developmental and technological potentials.
The spontaneity and anonymity offered by social media facilitates immediate savage clapbacks and knee jerk responses to opinions or failings of others. We’re gradually inched towards a total collapse of society.
In the end, arrogant ‘stick to it’iveness will lose, evil will win.
My mind is full.
This thing they call social media is a distiller of the contents of the minds of men, their pedigree, upbringing, warts and all.
We, however will continually need to cut our collective humanity some slacks. We will need to understand, bear with, forbear, forgive accommodate and overlook.
Our best strength, and at the same time, worst weakness as humans, consists perhaps in our ability and eternal readiness to make sacrifices.
At one time, we sacrifice our individual liberties, opportunities and comfort for the welfare of others. At other times, the brutes in us sacrifices our valuable relationships, identity and future security in pursuit of ego and fickle stuff.
Each time I reflect on the deep divisions introduced into Nigeria in recent times and how the progressive elites have yielded their combustibility to fire the separation more and more, I worry for the future of ‘we the people’ either as a singular country or a comity of young new nations.
Unless the progressives learn to fight themselves sensibly, the rapacious elements who steal our commonwealth dry will continue to ambush our destinies relentlessly, and they will always have the upper hand without fail.
May Nigerian Progressives, beware.
