RE: Between 2 Mass Shootings, 4300 Shot in America

Hi @davidpakman, I live in Australia where the gun control laws are probably not that much more strict but where the incidences of violence due to alcohol and drug abuse is probably higher (proportional to the population) compared to the US. I see financial inequality and falling standards in education as the common bottleneck to a long term solution to solving any social issues, but funding in education and research continue to fall by the wayside so I think both countries are just paying the price for this.

Surely Australian gun control laws are way more strict than those in the US. Some states here have hardly any laws or restrictions at all.

I agree that Australian gun control laws more strict, but having strict gun control laws while substantially more die from drug and alcohol abuse seems to suggest that the priorities need to be reassessed. Australia also just spent who know how much money on a public survey about same sex marriage that will not actually result in any change to the law (that goes through another process). I guess it just goes to show that some countries find certain problems easier to solve than others. I am still waiting on what the Australian government will do about the humanitarian rights of asylum seekers and its own history of ill-treatment of the indigenous population...
