Draining the Shithole!

in #politics7 years ago

US President Donald Trump is accused of using the phrase "Shithole countries" in a meeting about immigration into the US.

I find it less interesting whether he said it or not, lets be honest whether this is true or not is fairly academic; Trump would have said or Tweeted some other bizarre and offensive thing quickly enough anyway.

What is really interesting is that people who were at the same meeting apparently confirming Trump both did, and did not say this.
Now both things can't be true, he either did or didn't say it. I see phrases like 'basically true' or 'I didn't hear it' from people who were supposed to have been there.

Something has become terribly broken in the world, if we can't just get a straight forward account if what happened in a meeting, apparently from some if the most intelligent and powerful people on the planet.

This is much bigger than POTUS, Washington, or the USA though; we see this in politics everywhere. How many times do you watch opposing politicians argue points where they don't even agree on the question, let alone the answer.

Pparty politics, is the swamp, it's the shithole. Let's flush the turds away, and get on with actually doing things, rather than sinking ever more slowly into the mire of party political bullshit.

Sort:

I think they need to rewrite the Guinness book of records as Trump is apparently the least racist, humblest, smartest and general biggliest man alive. I think his team are constantly firefighting to deal with what he says

Ha ha agreed, but I see Trump almost as a symptom, the cause is political parties and their need to make politicians follow party lines. Trump is a reactionary voice due to that.

Think about the whips in UK politics, strong-arming MPs into voting against their will; disgraceful. And you see them on TV validly parroting the party line:
Interviewer; But didn't you say just last year that X was true?
MP; Think the question you need to be asking is...

We need more honesty and integrity from those who are running the show.

The problem they have (and had all the time) with Trump is, that he does not belong to a party. He got support from the Republicans, yes, but only because they realized they didn't have any own candidate that could beat him in the election.
Because of that, he does not have to comply to party guidelines or has to be popular inside the party, in order to secure his political career, like other politicians usually have to.

Trump is not a politician. He doesn't know how to filter what he says and probably doesn't remember what he said anyway. He constantly contradicts himself and we get it all direct from him. No media required

Sounds like fake news to me

And that is the problem, there is no way to know what it real anymore. Trumps 'fake news' accusations have lead the average person into a state of constant FUD. However he just tipped things over the edge, politics globally was close to that edge already.
My assertion is it's the partisan nature of party politics that feeds this. Trump should have run as an independent if he really wanted to drain the swamp.

" there is no way to know what it real anymore."

Actually no. It's very easy. Here's a quick guide: Press Ctrl-F to whatever you are reading about Trump and search for:
Russia
Alleged/Allegedly
Possible/Possibly
Racist/ Transphobic/White Supremacy/KKK
Collusion

If any of the above comes up then you can be 99% sure it's fake news.

In an ideal world, yeah trump should have run independently. But this is not the ideal world and if you run independently you take 0 %
