Monday, October 7th: the day even Trump’s staunchest supporters have started to speak out against him.
The President’s decision to pull out of Northern Syria, made without notice Sunday night, is drawing backlash from surprising voices. This morning on Twitter, I’ve seen several key Republicans jumping into the fray to voice concern over his decision. Lindsey Graham. Nikki Haley. Liz Cheney. Marco Rubio. Who will be next? Are they finally trying to distance themselves from the raging dumpster fire that is the current administration? Has POTUS finally worn out his welcome with Republican leaders?
We can only hope. However, at what price?
This decision has thrown our, somewhat already tenuous, position with essential allies into disarray. This move makes the United States look like nothing more than turncoats on the international stage. The Kurdish forces helped us when we needed them, and now we leave them to almost unmistakable slaughter. The message this sends to our allies is clear-the United States wants you to be here for us, but you cannot count on us to be there for you.
President Trump attempted to defend his move on Twitter Monday morning. He cited his "great and unmatched wisdom" and stated that "I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey" which he says he’s done before, basically if they act in a way that he does not like and condone.
I can only hope that this will finally lead to more Republicans speaking out against Donald Trump,that he has finally broken them, but I fear that this is only a set-back for him, and not the end of the ball game. And if so, I am terrified of what he will finally have to do to make them jump ship for good.
I think this goes to show how invaluable it is, to have a person who understands the situation and makes a correct decision.
