  • Bottom line: This new language means that more pro team owners would need to pony up for their own facilities, as it would be much harder to convince state and municipal lawmakers to approve bond packages that are no longer tax exempt.
  • Why it matters: "We're trying to answer one of the most fundamentally important questions in American archaeology," Todd Braje, an author of the paper that appears today in Science, tells Axios.
  • The history of America used to be obvious: during the Ice Age, sea levels dropped and humans crossed a land bridge between Russia and Alaska.

  • Clovis, a former fighter pilot and conservative talk-radio host from Iowa, brought into the Trump campaign George Papadopoulos, who has pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents about his contacts with Russians. Court filings say Papadopoulos had meetings with Russians seeking to provide incriminating information about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign.
  • Over the next several months, according to court documents, he cultivated at least three contacts who promised "dirt" on Clinton, Trump’s election rival, and introductions to top-level Russians. Papadopoulos was one of five volunteer advisers on foreign policy identified by Trump in a March 2016 interview. He kept some people in the campaign, including Clovis, apprised of his efforts by email.

  • And since he was badly trailing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, it would have to be a marketing marvel worthy of Mad Men’s Don Draper, one that encapsulated the vague yet compelling promise of his candidacy—its worship of American ideals and its total break from them.
  • He said as much in an October 26 rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, in one of his unsettling bouts of honesty: "I said that about a week ago, and I didn’t like it that much, didn’t sound that great.
  • Manafort, the second Trump campaign manager, indicted on money laundering charges in late October; Flynn, for undisclosed lobbying work done on behalf of the Turkish government; son-in-law and consigliere Jared Kushner, for failing to disclose $1 billion in loans tied to his real-estate company; and at least six Cabinet heads being investigated for or asked about exorbitant travel expenses, security details or business dealings. Now, a year after the election—and more than a year after Trump first made that pledge to the American people—many observers believe the swamp has grown into a sinkhole that threatens to swallow the entire Trump administration. The number of White House officials currently facing questions, lawsuits or investigation is astonishing: Trump, being sued for violating the "emoluments clause" of the U.S. Constitution by running his Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.; Paul J.

  • Of Yiannopoulos, he said: "I supported Milo Yiannopoulos in the hope and expectation that his expression of views contrary to the social mainstream and his spotlighting of the hypocrisy of those who would close down free speech in the name of political correctness would promote the type of open debate and freedom of thought that is being throttled on many American college campuses today.
  • I believe that a collection of individuals making their own decisions within the confines of a clear and concise set of laws that they have determined for themselves will advance society much more effectively than will a collection of experts who are confident in their knowledge of what is best for everyone else. "I believe that individuals are happiest and most fulfilled when they form their own opinions, assume responsibility for their own actions, and spend the fruits of their own labor as they see fit.

  • Tax cuts cost the government revenue; Congress usually tries to offset those revenue losses with increases in fees or taxes elsewhere, or cuts in federal spending.

  • Mercer, who has long backed Breitbart and Yiannopoulos, said he hoped Yiannopoulos’ abrasive style and views outside the political mainstream would help people think for themselves. However, as Yiannopoulos moved closer to neo-Nazi and other racist groups, he now regrets supporting him.

  • He only won the 2nd time around because of high approval after Sandy and the Democrats pretty much had no one to really throw up except Barbara Buono, which they didn't seem to heavily back. Then you had Bridgegate come out and all that other shit, because Christie wasn't to not just win, but win BIG so when was running for president, he had something to show.
  • I think Murphy recognizes that it would reallocate police resources to more valuable things throughout the state, as well as help fund the pensions for the teacher's union, which are in dire need of funds. The taxation levied on it, were it to be legalized, might also assist in the funding for infrastructure repair, which is always needed in an area with such dense population and use of highways/roads/etc.
  • But one note: Murphy already has a strained relationship with state Senate President Stephen Sweeney, the top Democratic lawmaker, and we saw during the Corzine years, when Democrats control the Legislature and the governor's office, that doesn't always mean they get along.
