There are many things that unite the American people, economic unity is prob the least of it. Of there is indeed such a thing. I think it is more the beliefs and concepts that America was founded on, such as Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness is more of a reason. Although many of those concepts didn't originally include many non white Americans, they do now. For all of it's problems and political backbiting, This can still be considered the land of the free.
