The United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of the resolution that rejects the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The favorable votes were 128, the contrary nine, abstentions 35.
On the bill counting board we read that they voted against the resolution, among others, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel and the USA.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was satisfied with the number of countries that did not vote for the UN resolution. "We reject this UN decision in Israel and we are pleased to point out that a significant number of countries have not voted for it," said the premier in a statement released by the Israeli government.
Even the Palestinians said they were satisfied with yesterday's vote. "This decision reaffirms that the just cause of the Palestinians benefits from the support of international law. We must continue our efforts at the UN and other international bodies to end the Israeli occupation and create a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as capital". spokesman for Palestinian President Abu Mazen said.
I agree that Israel has created an apartheid system and it has to end, but I do not agree with your statement..
Whenever I hear (or see in this instance) someone saying the West Bank and Gaza should somehow just be given back, and Israel should conceit to Jerusalem as the capitol of Palestine.
Well, first I try to refrain from screaming - then I agree as long as most of the Americas are given back to the Native Americans, Texas should definitely be given back to Mexico, and every border in Africa must be redrawn to reflect the unjust acquisition of land.
Not likely, or possible right... WINNING The Six Day War in 1967 gave Israel every right to hold those lands - regardless if they are or were another populations "homeland". The world is full of ill gotten gains acquired through war - however unfortunate for all who LOST...
