Looking at SF, it's like rubber-necking on the highway at a terrible wreck. The entire downtown is boarded up in response to the crime wave (which progressives insist is not really happening). The crime apologists would like you to beleive all of the following simultaneously: 1) Crime isn't really up. 2) It's no big deal, insurance will pick up the tab anyway 3) This is a form of restorative justice in action. And of course the 'rob from the rich, give to the poor crowd' conveniently forget about the retail workers who are terrified to go to work, and the mom-and-pop businesses that are getting hammered by raising insurance premiums and reduced foot traffic. Big props to Michelle Tandler, who has been chronicling SF's fall from civilization on Twitter. Meanwhile, real estate investors are scrambling to 1031 exchange out of the progressive paradise. Much of that money is ending up in Texas, where taxes are low, regulations are reasonable and predictable, and law and order still rules the day. This is Nancy Pelosi's district, and Kamala Harris's hometown. This is the future they envision for America.
