Thank you, @davidpakman, for your post. As an immigrant and Muslim, this pains me beyond words. Trump's dangerous Islamophobia has been on display from the beginning--in his cabinet hires, Muslim ban, and how he courts the alt right.
Unfortunately, his hateful words lead to ugly actions, such as hate crimes against Muslims which have spiked since his election (including name-calling, physical violence, mosque burnings). Even children in school, I've been reading, are emboldened to bully 'foreign' children (Muslim, immigrant or different looking) when they find the Leader of the Free World doing so...
That's why I've made it my mission, as a poet, to try and spread a message of hope and healing. In order to drive the point home that only a very small fraction of the more than one billion Muslims are terrorists. And, as the recent mosque bombing in Egypt illustrates, terrorism has no religion--since the vast majority of ISIS, worldwide, are in fact, peace-loving and moderate Muslims.
Kindly, find below my lucky Coming to America story, which I hope will further illustrate my gratitude as an immigrant, Muslim and poet who was granted a new life in the US:
