Just 24 hours before HF 19, Poloniex did something they’ve done before, disabled the Steem and SBD wallets. In the past, it has only been a matter of hours before the wallet was back online and deposits returned to their rightful owners, but not this time.
In my case, and I’m sure others, I had a power down of a thousand shares plus in steem, coming out the same day as HF19 took effect. Without too much thought, I sent my coins on to Poloniex, secure in the belief that within an hour or so, I could cash them into bitcoin and move them into a wallet for conversion into dollars, but it didn’t happen quite like that.
By the end of the day, I was concerned. I sent a support message to Poloniex and got a reply the next day, telling me that the wallet was temporarily disabled. But, the exchange seemed to still be selling and still is selling steem. In fact, somehow, with the wallet disabled, thousands of bitcoin in steem has been bought and sold. Curious.
Meanwhile, we’ve watched our rewards, that had been somewhat inflated after the hardfork for many, dissipating, as the price of steem has headed south. While it’s impossible to say for sure, but the last time it happened to bitcoin, it was the poloniex exchange that caused the panic and the sell off. Could it be the same thing?
I’m not a highly technical guy, but I have to ask, are these really technical problems? Seems that within a week, a wallet could be built from scratch and tested. Is it possible that Poloniex is instead, manipulating the market into a sell off, which someone is using to their advantage as they trade over two million dollars in steem just today, while steemit users are locked out of that part of the exchange.
Then I notice this message from five days ago, about two days after the steem wallet shut down.
Due to ongoing network instability, we've disabled Ethereum deposits/withdrawals. We'll enable once we know the network is functioning properly.
And now that the wallet is apparently open for business, where the hell is my steem? I sent over a thousand coins there last Thursday. They are taking deposits again, but no steem. Is anyone else experiencing this as well?
So, here is what I intend to do. I will continue to update this story until the problem is fixed, and if it doesn’t get fixed, I will share my story to the ends of the crypto universe in the hope of convincing every coin user to avoid poloniex and their shifty, unresponsive way of doing business.
Meanwhile at poloniex offices
ARRRRGGHHHHHGGGG!!! THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ME!!!!!
Haha too bad buddy, it's her time ! Not ours !
Well, "she" of course would be my sexy wife. And I say that in all honesty. I have a good life.
:) good wife = good life
25 years and counting.
:) I'm 25 years old Haha
Im not understanding why people haven't moved to Bittrex. Ive switched to them with zero problems.
Well. I'm there, but they've got a thousand shares of my coin.
I understand. I first started at Bittrex when i first started on Steemit. Then switched to Polo then switched back about a month ago when issues first began to be noticed. Trades were taking longer, and withdrawal were taking longer. Here's to hoping you get your money back.
Yeah, I hope so. I'm sure I'm not the only one right now, although no one else has said anything.
You have more followers, but I resteemed to get the message out.
Thanks, I hope if the word gets out, it puts them out of business if they can't get it together.
It's the GUI. The Polo interface is just easier to use, looks nicer, etc.
That doesn't say much for stability, obviously, but that's why I used it over Bittrex.
Give me Polo's GUI and Bittrex's stability and we're golden.
I actually liked parts of their GUI better. I find depositing and finding wallets to be easier on Bittrex. Trading was quicker on Polo until a month ago, when trades began to slow down is when I switched back. I think Bittrex is going to benefit greatly from whatever is going on at Poloneix.
😂
I second that!
Well, it's not that funny, really.
I feel your pain, I got some coins lock up there over 6 weeks, am at the point where I am thinking of exchange them for another coin and cash out. Exactly what you are saying, I said in a post some time ago, especially coins base on cryptonote technology, when ever the market is making huge moves, they just randomly disable the wallet. It's so blatant and obvious it aint even funny. This cryptocurrency ecosystem has so much to work on before anyone take them seriously with their decentralization train they keep pumping
I can't even see them yet. They never appeared, they are just lost in the ether. They're gone from my steem wallet, but not in the poloniex wallet.
Oh shit, consider it gone to a charitable cause... sorry for your lost
Um, fuck that. It's over $1500 and I'm not the kind of guy that let's shit go.
I think bittrex is better, after all the research I have done. Poloniex has been real pain to a lot of people lately.
I'm with you, but I still want my money. As soon, and if it becomes available, I will be sending it straight to Bittrex and disabling my poloniex account.
It is indeed!!
Yeahhhhhhhh, I'd use Bittrex instead, for that particular transfer.
oh gawd feed after feed about problems with the exchange. Bittrex has been solid so far.
So? They've got over $1500 of my money, what do you think I should do?
Polo has always been good for me? Is sending steem there a no go?
I wouldn't. They've had a thousand shares of mine since last Tuesday and I still can't get a good response, or any of my money.
haha hey man my ex wife is sitting in a 1.8 mil home and I have been waiting for 2 years to sell it.. so I know how you feel :)
Geesh, well, you put my problem in perspective, but I'm still pissed off.
patience grasshopper, said the minnow to the dolphin
Nope, daddy's fresh out of patience. The wallet is up, they keep sending me the same form response that my deposit will show when the wallet is up.
you have to keep bothering them I suppose. Persistence then.. not like you can sue them.
I too was reamed 281 S 120 SBD just removed all my coin out of there but like 12 cents. I will get around to it.
So, you got caught this last week, and your money came back or not?
No my friend @markrmorrisjr, not yet and it has been eight days
How much was it? Just curious.
I'll take stability over GUI any day. They disable access to the currency or access to the exchange during peak times. Aren't these issues a sign that the exchange is failing?
I think you should keep writing to them every single day and hope to get a response.
This has been ongoing for a week. Not interested in them fixing their exchange, other than to give me my coins. I'm done there.
Well.. I hope you get your money back. Let us know how it goes.
Poloniex is killing me. I want my STEEM
You too?
My STEEM is working. I just withdrew it from Poloniex. See if yours is working!
Nope, nada. Still missing a thousand coins that never showed up last Tuesday.
Don't forget get the free stellar tokens that every bitcoin holder (as of 26th june) has the right to claim !
Well, I won't, but I wasn't aware. Tell me more.
It's part of Stellar's plan to distribute tokens to bitcoin holders. It's not the first time they're doing it. I explain all about it in this post, I also give the official links to claim yours and the circular the company has published.
Okay, thanks, I'll check it out.
cheers !
So, bittrex then?
I still haven't set up a wallet anywhere, was browsing polo some days ago, just didn'tsign up.
Seems okay so far.
I hope you get your steem man :(
Me too.
Really glad I chose Bittrex over Poloniex now. Best random decision ever made. lol Sorry about your coins bro.
I'm glad you did too. This is ridiculous. All I'm getting still are static form responses.
