Bad news for all Poloniex users with a Legacy account. Poloniex has just reported that all Legacy account holders will have to become verified at some point next year to be eligible to trade. The exact date for this deadline will be announced in the first quarter next year.
Although Poloniex will give a notive in advance before this requirement goes into effect, the exchange recommends users to check their profiles right now to determine if you have a Legacy or a Verified account.
Poloniex will begin forcing full KYC on legacy account holders in 2018
On the date of the deadline, legacy accounts will be placed in a state where trading and lending will be disabled and open orders will be closed. The good news is that withdrawals will remain enabled at the daily withdrawal limits prior to the deadline ($2,000 USD).

We still have Bittrex which is far superior compared to Poloniex. HitBTC has also listed Steem/SBD but the trading volume there is too small. The only alternative at the moment is Bittrex.
I'm no fan of Bittrex. It's probably because I haven't had any success with ease of transactions; and, the tutorials aren't very helpful.

This will hugely increase the demand for Decentralized Exchanges. The beauty of crypto is that you can be active without filling in papers all the time. Probably I will proceed to move my funds off. Not because I have to hide something, BUT IT IS JUST NOT THERE BUSINESS!!

It’s not ‘we’…it’s more ‘they’…the scammers who have created a huge noose…loophole…seeking to break the backs of exchanges by thieving; thus, creating a rabbit hole for them to start delving into the names and faces of people in the virtual crypto world.
Poloniex is a great example. They would have remained quite content not having to expose their records; but, the fact that their losses are outweighing their ability to ‘write them off’ brings in access to the feds, to the benefits of both entities.
Learn? Humans are born to care for themselves. Enter the world, before long learn to handle a bottle/sippy cup…before long, learn to walk,…you get the point.
Yes, it will; but, that’s the price one pays when thieving enters the picture. A recent ‘someone’ scammed millions into their Wallet…shut down services and powered down and into BTC. No name, no face.
Of course, that kind of muckery is unsustainable. The bad actors are forcing these yucky regulations. I’m sure exchanges are falling prey to class-action lawsuits for people left holding air…matters not who’s to blame…a rip is a rip.

My guess is that with the new Tax Laws for 2018, Poloniex is watching their backs. Every Trade will now be taxable to the IRS. Even if someone transfers funds from say bitcoin on one exchange to Poloniex. If you had a gain then the IRS will know and you will have to pay on the profits. Every single trade or transfer with a gain TAXABLE. The IRS is going to rake it in. This will pretty much make life difficult to any day traders out there. Apparently the trader will have to give the dollar equivalent to the profits made on each trade as well. Less and Less privacy. By being verified means they will know who you are... Cheers Mates. Actually, this KYC is the result of the shady dealings forcing decentralized banking to be more ACCOUNTABLE.
The Tax Man only wants you to pay your 'fair' share when you cash out. This exchange has really taken a beaten over the past few months.
I presume this is their way of maybe even 'striking a deal' to prevent totally tanking.
Let's face it, only a fool thinks decentralized carries any weight when cashing out. I assure you the tax-man knows your dealings, and will collect.

I have pretty much abandoned all the exchanges, I couldn't find any that weren't shady thieves...
Now I STEEM and I hodl bitcoin, and I use a select few exchanges just for that --to exchange one coin to another.
I agree. I'm using openledger.io to buy bts and a few other alt coins. I sent $1. to bittrex a few hours ago as a test run, and zero notification of where it went or what it's doing. Thankfully, it was 'only' a $1.
