Why Porn Stars Say Netflix Put Their Safety at Risk

in #porn6 years ago

You may have heard about Rashida Jones' new Netflix documentary series Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On and the growing coalition of human trafficking organizations, doctors performers, advocates and academics speaking out against it.

Here's why: several performers, myself included, did not give our consent to have our images used, nor were we notified about being part of this documentary.

This is especially harmful to webcam models because some use geographic privacy settings on their accounts, so overzealous fans, stalkers, and predators can't access or identify them. Some performers had private information about their legal names and details about where they lived revealed.

One performer whose legal name was exposed has since had her family harassed. Mail containing graphic images of her work was recently received at her mother's home address.

Other family members around the country have also received similar mail, and the performer has been threatened online. Making our images available globally, against our will, and in areas that we have restricted is a serious violation of our privacy, and it puts our safety and the safety of our family members at risk.

Documentary filmmakers have an ethical obligation to do no harm to their subjects. Rashida Jones, the producers, and Netflix continue to do harm to our community with every passing day that our images and private information are broadcast around the world.
