For the past few months, rape has become one of the most common news in Nepal. From the child of 3 years to 71 years old grandmas, women of every age groups are getting raped. This is really questioning the humanity and the freedom of Nepali women.
Rapists are roaming freely in the streets, they aren't punished by the government. Those who are caught, get bailed because of their political reach. There is no feeling like "fear of government" for the rapist.
And here is our government punishing people who kiss in the public. Yes, you got it right. Kissing in public is illegal in Nepal. Now the government has even banned pornography. Prostitution was never legal here in Nepal. Sex has been like a forbidden fruit for Nepali people. Police raids the hotels and arrests couples making love with each other's agreement.
Now our government is banning porn. They think it is the reason why rape is increasing daily. Why aren't they understanding that people who masturbate aren't the ones who rape? I am completely frustrated with the irresponsible and immature act by our government.
What do you think?
Do you think that our government has done the right move? What should be done in order to control the flaming rape rate in Nepal?
First off, this is absolutely awful to hear. I had no idea of this rampant issue in your country and I am very appalled and heartbroken for the victims.
Your question, however, is whether your government is right in banning pornography. I understand what the government is attempting to do here, I believe if you look in the past of some of these rapists you will find pornography. However, that is not the root issue. The true answer? I would wonder what home life is like. Are families encouraged or are parents split apart? Is child abuse common? What conditions did these rapists grow up in. Also, as a Christian, I believe that Jesus Christ is the answer to any solution. On a more technical level, however, I believe the government needs to work on making violators of the law pay for their injustice and then go from there.
First of all, I appreciate that you read it all. Here in Nepal, It's very unlikely that the parents are split, once they get married. Another thing, our government is very irresponsible. Today you get a rape news and the other day government gets a new law like, "You can't play horn in the valley". Government just doesn't care. And something that scares me is how every rapist has some sort of political reach to get baled out immediately or not get arrested at all. We listen the news of rape and murderer but never listen the news that the murder is caught. They skip away and that's scary to which path our country is going towards.
It seems to me like the concept of consent is nonexistent for the Nepal government. All non-consensual sex is bad, that should be obvious. Of course the government should discourage that from happening. However, if two adults want to show love to each other and both of them want to do just that, then it's not the government's business!
The same goes for pornography. I am strictly against pornography depicting children, any kind of abuse and/or violence, or pornography in which at least one of the depicted people doesn't know they are being filmed. But pornography as two adults consensually enjoy sexual acts in front of a camera - there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! If anything, a ban will just make people move onto other platforms like the darknet, or use VPN, or whatever...
Exactly!
What I want to convey is that our government arrests the lovers kissing in public but someone who rapes is baled out. Can you see how irresponsible our government is?
