Portugal is an ancient, proud country, shaped by many adventurers and intrepid people.
Ah the great Guimaraes Castle, nice and Stone-y!
While we take pride in this side of Portuguese history, it its clear to us that Portugal is keeping its ancient status on many things to these days.
We have seen several journals and news bulletins regarding to Bitcoin in the last few months, but only now do people seem to have even acknowledged that something like Bitcoin exists.
For the non-portuguese speakers - the image above was extracted from the Observador website (a portuguese Journal) and translates roughly to : "Bitcoin reaches 'High Finance', How far will the fever go"
This is to say that even one of the most reputable journals in Portugal - a country that is known to venture beyond and reach out to the world - knows next to nothing about cryptocurrency.
Aside from a select few, Portuguese people aren't very aware that cryptocurrency exists and its possibilities or that it can be applied to every-day life.
And as such, we at Primus Investing did our first Bitcoin to Euro withdrawl here in Portugal and wanted to share it with everyone here at Steemit.
Please note that some details have been edited to offer some privacy to the card holder and the person that did the withdrawal!
Without further ado, ladies and gentleman we bring thee Primus Investing's first Bitcoin to Euro withdrawal!
The withdrawal was processed through a Bitwala card, issued without problem and in due time as can be seen in the leftmost picture.
For those of you not in the loop, like many of Portuguese fellows, there are some electronic cards out there that allow you to spend cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin and Ethereum - in this specific case we used Bitwala since it was the most available one at the time.
The process, although it has some fees, is very simple - you transfer Bitcoin to your Bitwala address which then gets converted to Euro, which you can spend anywhere where a Visa card is accepted.
Our withdraw was meant to show that it is indeed possible to spend your Bitcoins in day-to-day purchases or even buy a house if you have enough Bitcoins.
But the bottom line is that Portugal still hasn't much knowledge about these concepts - like withdrawing your BTC - and we at Primus Investing are going to help the portuguese get a better understanding of Cryptocurrency and Blockchain - so we can once again be explorers of this new world.
Have any of you felt this in your own countries? Are they as dormant as the Portuguese? Did you already use one of these cards? If so - please share your story with us in the comments!
Until we meet again - Primus Investing out.
Tipping jar - for a better Portugal!
