Grey Herons are often seen in Ireland. Birds breeding in Ireland do not migrate for winter and birds from Britain and even Scandinavia join our resident population for the winter.
Some medieval facts about Grey Herons:
Roast herons were popular at medieval banquets: the young birds, called branchers, were thought to be the best to eat.
The fat of a heron killed at full moon was once believed to be a cure for rheumatism.
This bird was photographed in the Fota Wildlife Park in Cork, Ireland.

My mother would love this shot. She also loves photography and took an amazing picture of an ibis. She is always complemented on it when we have visitors. It looks professional - very similar to yours but with more landscape in the background.
An upvote and follow from me.
P.S great information about the history of herons
Thanks,
