So, you have discovered Steemit and you want to begin posting, but either you have never done it before or you have but you’re hesitating because “I don’t know what to choose.” Here’s then a quick and dirty how-to so that you can wade right into creating decent posts.
Choose a familiar subject: That’s the oldest and most worn out advice in the book but it’s always current and pertinent. I love reading about oceanography but I have no idea how to write intelligently about it. If you are a teacher, write about teaching, if you are a fireman, talk about your most recent call etc. Stay on familiar ground. There's always time to become an authority in nuclear physics.
Make a habit of taking notes: Even the most random observation can be an excellent kernel for a good post. Whether you're a pen-and-paper person or a maniacal "smart" phone user be prepared to make a quick note about something you thought or anything that caught your attention out there in the streets, at work, etc.
Make it short and smart: Quantity is NEVER the way to create the impression of quality. The most successful editorials are almost always below 300 words. In this age of short memory and even shorter attention span, your 2,000-word long essay will sink into oblivion instantly even if you are the reincarnation of Ernst Hemingway.
Read, read, and read some more: I don't mean read, read, read People's Magazine or the inane millions of blogs. I mean read something that requires effort. Be it a "serious" novel, a book of poems, or your preferred holy book, read, read, and read some more. There's no other way to train your mind and drive your writing (or key tapping) hand.
Forget the modern gurus: We are surrounded by flamboyant "experts" and "successful entrepreneurs" as never before. Hubris overflows. Ignore these towering mediocrities and put your trust on those who are either dead or very old. Strange advice, isn't it? But never forget that success in the present never guarantees longevity and continuing success in the future. Put your money on tested wisdom.
Stay the course: One brief post a day make the writer don't go away (bad grammar but I had to do the thing rhyme.)
Happy posting!
Like it, brief & straight to the point.. I find the last part "stay the course" funny..;)
