Hello again!
I've just had a lot of thoughts going on right now and I wanted to share them here. The main thought running through my mind nowadays is- What type of lifestyle do I want to live?
I've considered my career, habits, hobbies, moral; all of these things are important to me because it shapes the type of life I want to live.
Here's my are my current thoughts:
I've switched my career path during my senior year of undergrad from pursuing a Master's in Public Health to becoming a Veterinarian. I've been working toward Veterinary Medicine for almost 2 years in general practice (GP) and I'm still not positive that it is the career path I want to pursue. There are definitely more options within the Veterinary field besides GP that I could take the time to explore however, my true fear hides behind my GPA and potential GRE scores. To be frank, my GPA is not in good standing for Veterinary school and I've currently been studying for the GRE but my scores are not up to par either. Which brings to me to believe that I should not spend more time purposing Veterinary School. This mindset has definitely taken a toll on my GRE studies but I'm just being realistic with my goals.
Currently, I've been searching Public Health careers that seem to align with my interests and beliefs. These include becoming a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or becoming certified as a Infection Preventionist. I'm skeptical about whether or not these careers truly peak my interests or I'm just desperately forcing myself to believe I enjoy environmental regulations and epidemiology...
Now I'd like to trail off about the topic of my hobbies and morals. I can say that I am interested in health (mental and physical), sustainability, and animal rights. I've slowly been integrating these interests into my current lifestyle:
- For my mental health I've taken up yoga classes. I enjoy the practice and appreciate the time I spend feeling more connected with my mind and body.
- I've always stayed active throughout my life: I ran track and field in high school, I joined a hip-hop team in college, and now I'm interested in bouldering. Bouldering is basically rock climbing without any ropes or harnesses to support you. It is dangerous but it's a great workout! I think what interested me in this sport is that it used a lot of upper body strength, which I don't really have. I'm coming to learn that it's actually a full body workout and it forces me to solve puzzles in order to finish climbing a problem. If you're completely confused about what I'm talking about you can Youtube bouldering to get a better idea of the sport.
- I've currently decided to become pescatarian. Mostly to be more reverent about animal cruelty and also to be live more sustainable.
I didn't fully expand on some of these ideas because I'm just dumping them out here so I didn't expect to be extremely thorough.
Overall I've just been thinking about my life choices because I'm not sure if this is the type of lifestyle I want to live. I'm not sure if I want to be a Doctor. Or if I enjoy being a pescatrian. Or if I'd even enjoy a career in public health. Maybe I can change my career completely. Who knows?!
My main point? I'm a postgraduate and I'm very lost ;~;
