Beautifully said, @comingalive. I think our psyche's work on this problem all the time, whether we know it or not. We see an outfit in an online ad and think: is that me? Am I like that? Would I feel more whole and complete in that outfit? Would I project the "me" I really want to be?
In short, I believe identity crisis is simply part of the human condition. As we age, we don't solve this. Nor do we finally identify who we truly are and recognize at a glance whether the outfit in the advertisement is a projection of our true selves, and therefore must be acquired. We simply become okay with not knowing the answers.
You are so right. Our egos subconsciously make so many decisions for us based on who we think we should be/should look like. And yes, the beauty/pain of being human. We never get there, but the release of caring about getting there makes it that much better.
