The last few days of really warm weather has done wonders for my heirloom peppers.
As you will see from the image below, I have my first red bell pepper that has ripened - and there are more on the way.
These are from the plants that I over wintered and so I am very pleased to see them doing well.
Peppers are very easy to grow and I think everyone should give them a try.
Mine are in containers in a very sunny position - they get sun for most of the day.
The soil is well drained with plenty of organic compost and I water the containers almost every day depending on the weather.
When the flowers appear, I make a point of tapping them a little bit to help with the pollination and when watering, I water the entire plant as this is also supposed to encourage the formation of the peppers.
The harvesting of peppers should only be done when the peppers are completely ripe as if they are harvested unripe, the taste will be bitter.

Never heard of them, how different are they from the bell peppers?
They are bell peppers - heirloom means that the seed has been handed down from generation to generation and so will stay true to the original plant.

Love peppers. We don't have the climate here to successfully grow them. Too short a season

They can be grown indoors so long as plenty of light and warmth.
