Damn! What a great detailed post. I taught English in Seoul South Korea and ended with my own private school from the age of 20-25. No degree nothing. So I know a bit about the industry.
But my goodness that sounds like a nightmare teaching deal in Thailand. I once took a job at a public school n Koera (even with no degree they hired me). It had 40 students in the class. It was totally nuts, stressful, and I quit after two days. Went to teaching only adults after that experience and one on one private lessons.
Only reason they hired me, was cause I'm white, hansom, with blue eyes! "Oh your eyes so blue!" I would here almost everyday in a Korean Accent. Always starring at how the foreigner looks different for better or worse.
I never got turned down from a job cause of my skin color. All over Asia they are some the most racist people on the planet. Can work for or against you. Even in Korea they hated themselves. If you were Korean from north of the river in Seoul, they hated those from south of the river. Tribalism is still big in this part of the world.
Blacks couldn't get a job there, and if they could they'd be paid half as much. It was real nasty, and real obvious.
What bothers me even more though are those back in the west/USA, that cry America is so racist, America is full of racism. Go to any mono-ethnic country, mono-race country and they F-king HATE other races, generally speaking. They may not even see a black person for years, since other races basically don't exist in their citizenship, so they can get a way with it without the world really noticing. But that doesn't change the fact that they are incredibly racist.
But back in the west where I see black and whites getting along side by side, that is where the racists are, claim so many voices that have never left their home town. Just a bunch of BS. My heart goes out to any minority really getting shunned in these truly racist countries. It really sucks.
In fact I got treated really well in Korea cause I was white, but sometimes it had the opposite effect. Once I got attacked on the street for being white by a young female college student, and several times the bus would not stop for me if I was the only one at the bus stop.
Anyway. I've got to check up on your other posts. I know you are in the midst of a huge move to Danang.
