The Akwa Ibom State government has cautioned its natives against handshakes and embracing to remain safe from monkeypox.

An announcement marked by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh, in Uyo on Saturday affirmed one instance of monkeypox in the state. He included that two different cases were being explored.

“Akwa Ibom State has recorded one affirmed instance of monkeypox while two different cases are still under scrutiny.

“Monkeypox as of now has no treatment and no immunization. It would appear that Smallpox however the rashes are bigger while the illness is milder.

“The time of maintaining a strategic distance from unnecessary handshake, standard hand washing and restraint from bushmeat is here once more,” he said.

The magistrate guaranteed that the state government will give more data to subjects along these lines.
