Preparing for an uncertain future is daunting task but it can be done We live in a community that is on the outskirt of a small city of 13,000. This city is approximately 30 miles of a city of 1.2 million. The small city has an interstate that runs through it and connect two major cities. In case of a major disaster traffic would initially be heavy. No matter which disaster hits fuel will be in short supply and will stop the heavy influx of traffic from outside the small, city. We know that our first priority will be to defend our position. We hope this can be done as a community. We see this need for defense as not being as big of a problem later in the disaster.
We have taken a multi generational approach to try to provide for our collective needs. We started 20 years ago thinking, building, acquiring. To date we have equipment for farming, a 50 X 85' shop that houses fab equipment, mechanical tools and equipment and woodworking equipment. We have a sawmill. More articles will explain why we have decided that each of these are important to us.
Various skills will be important to have or to acquire. Our family group has a RN nurse, a professional certified mechanic, a professional certified steel fabricator and welder, a woodworker and one that tinkers.
