Today I went to see a Dr who specialises in skin cancers etc..
After a quick check I had a sunspot burnt off my lip. This had appeared around a couple of months ago as just a small spot on my bottom lip. Since then it slowly grew larger and being in a rural town was waiting for my appointment to come that I booked when I had a suspicion of what it was.
I also had to have a mole removed that had turned blue/black and will know in one week the results of melanoma.
I guilty like many of not being as vigilant as I should be with sunscreen and hats. Growing up my mother was very pedantic about us not sun baking and all the rest that goes along with it. I guess as I got older I felt 'yes! finally I can get a tan!!' I am not a sun baker but I loved going for a walk in the sun to get some colour. Having Lupus and Fibromyalgia have stopped that completely.
Long story short keep putting the sunscreen on. Buy a hat with a big brim. Definitely no sun baking!
Skin Cancer is huge here in Australia. We need to enforce this to our younger generations instead having that tan for that selfie they just have to take. (I don't take selfies) Get a spray tan, bronzing lotions. Anything but getting too much sun without the right items to keep your skin cancer free.
One more thing and then I am done. Get regular skin checks, you just never know if there is something there that can be prevented from forming into a
Sun spot or skin cancer.
Take care of your skin!
