I saved this article to talk about burnout. I saw an opportunity to do so when we had another disagreement for the umpteenth time in our Discord over matters concerning TURBO.
toxicI wasn't the only one- @jotnheimr had work to get to, but I could tell @jackthestreet had just about had it with one individual. @proveritas had his own issues, but adding to them was the growing sentiment that thanks to certain people, progress might never be made within this community.
What is burnout?
Burnout is the feeling of depletion, cynicism, and emotional distance that results from a lack of impact or autonomy at work.
And that's exactly what's happening. From an inability to contribute meaningful content to Twitter to having futile conversations about structures the group is simply not fit for yet, I feel a gross lack of impact and autonomy at work.
When I considered my part-time job, I feel these issues alleviating. My voice is heard during meaningful conversations, I receive feedback on the positive and negative aspects of my prior efforts, and I've even heard rumors that I might be invited to contribute to a greater role within the gig.
If I didn't have other opportunities lined up, and a need for more income, I might even devote my full-time availability to it. Why?
More than doing work, I feel as though I accomplish something there. Yet, within this memecoin project, I'm met by people who'd rather vote and delegate to the ten people present.
They're disillusioned and deliberately ignoring standing issues like a lack of resources for projects. They continue to avoid asking the few remaining active members what exactly they desire, while doubling down on uninteresting initiatives like this quasi-democracy they call a council.
1 in 4, on average, all over the world, report experiencing some form of burnout. In a team of five, the number of people dealing with stresses from overbearing other people is almost four or five.
Toxic workplace behavior was the biggest indicator of burnout symptoms and intent to leave, and that makes sense. I haven't seen a single idea speak to our money problem, address the actual business opportunities we have like the Manifold partnership, and our key talent like Product and Strategy Lead from Ocean Protocol deals with insensitive brutes and accusations daily.
I'm not saying I have all the answers; the dude barely knows. But one thing's for certain, this project is close to being reduced to ash by this burnout thanks to toxic teammates. I hope I can answer the age-old question:
What do we do?
Very well written brother and an excellent question to finish with, what do we do indeed
Curious to know if you have any specifics for toxic teammates or a lack of autonomy.
You know my stance has been to ignore and develop ourselves.
In addition, what exactly do we do for more money?
I am in doubt that another NFT project will succeed, though I will support the effort.
I say we focus on our own talent and lignin em up, we're both good writers, you love taking pictures, I love making music and we both enjoy music and gaming.. we can use these talents to connect with people as free agents for Turbo, ignore the toxicity and embrace the fun of applying our own creativity 😉
Btw, lack of autonomy is our own doing, we allowed others to dictate our paths, this is on us, as we could have just been doing whatever the hell we wanted al along. Back to work my friend... back to work
That thing I was talking about is starting to sound better huh?
Lol we do so much talking, I can’t even remember. And to be real, it’s the same thing in there. Everyone’s ideas, no action. I’m just gonna keep grinding so we can pay for (some) things.
I think that's life man. Work costs a lot of energy. Talk don't cost anything.
