That's an interesting study and as a programmer, i think i can explain why. The pro programmers i know like to hit spaces while the new ones hit one tab slowly.
Maybe just hitting four spaces quickly will make you more pro :)

I think this mostly depends on the settings of your editor. For a professional codes, tabs or spaces are usually inserted by the editor, not by actually hitting the respective key. They are usually inserted automatically. But the setting depends upon your preference.
