Hello Steemians. Feeling great to have to write about my recent visit to Owerri City. Owerri is the capital of Imo state which in itself happens to be one of the 36 states of the Nigeria Federation and located in the heart of the defunct East Central states. Imo state is home to about 7 accredited higher institutions, including:

Imo state University, Owerri.
Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
Federal Polytechnic, Needle.
Eastern Palm University, Ogboko
Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo
Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri
Technological Skills Acquisition Institute, Orlu

My interest to spearhead a massive sensitization campaign in Owerri is premised on the fact that it is a melting point of students in various higher institutions both within Owerri and its surrounding towns. Many University groups hold their conferences in Owerri City. And the Youth population of the city itself is not in doubt. However, a greater percentage of this huge population lack good employment with many being notorious for internet fraud.

Again, we are looking at possibility of having a @stach/ @euronation hub in Owerri, Imo state. But no far reaching campaign has been carried out within the city before. Hence, the residents are still very much uninformed as to what's steem blockchain is all about, and its awesome possibilities.

And one cannot possibly be making plans concerning an area or a city he has no first class information about. So the essence of my visit to Owerri City is to see things for myself and decide on the possibility of holding a Steemit-based city-wide campaign in terms of logistics particularly.

Among my plans when I get to Owerri is to visit Federal University of Technology (FUTO) and meet with official(s) of Student Union Government (SUG) towards seeing if the campaign would receive their backings in order to pull the needed crowd of students. I also plan to conduct opinion polls in Owerri City to determine which city-based daily circulates most and best suitable to for advert placement.

The journey

From my base to Owerri City is about 2-3 hours drive. Our bus left the bus station at exactly 3.00pm and before we could get to Owerri, it was already 6.00pm. So I checked into a hotel and slept over to continue on the main purpose of my visit the following.

My visit to Assumpta Catholic Cathedral

Based on the opinion poll I conducted as soon as I arrived at Owerri, I was to by the local vendors that The leader Newspapers (which is published by a Catholic church, Assumpta Cathedral) is the most widely circulated newspapers within Owerri metropolis. So the following I left my hotel room for Control Post where the church is situated.

On getting to the church, I was told that the press department is located very far away from the church location. I was given their address which is somewhere along Owerri-Onitsha road. I had no option but to trace them to their location. I made inquiries from a very friendly lady Receptionist.

She gave me the ad rates as well as other information I would need for a successful ad placement. I requested her to have a few photos sessions with me, she refused citing its against her terms of employment. I had a photo session and left for FUTO.

My visit to FUTO

On arriving at Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), I had a campus taxi shuttle drove me directly to the Student Union Government (SUG) Secretariat building. On getting there, I met no one. I was told the officials of the student body only come there whenever they have sitting. I was directed to a Hostel Governor, who gave me phone number of SUG's Director of Welfare, one Honourable Abia Emmanuel. I called him but he said I should give him one hour to round up.

Within the interim while waiting for him, I called @sussan whom had told me she's a FUTO student during the launching of @stach's Uyo branch. I requested to know if there are Steemians in the school to which she answered in the affirmative. I told her to get them to come so that we all could meet the SUG's official together. I never knew the Steemian students are all members of #Euronation: @valency1, @sussan, @tony-duke, and @dabby, who is a new member still yet to do her intro.

Few minutes after I had a handshake with the SUG's Director of Welfare, @sussan and her Steemian squads arrived and together we walked into a Coca-Cola joint for the meeting. I delivered the Steemit gospel and my plan to hold a campus-wide campaign under the umbrella of @euronation in partnership with @stach and endorsed by Student Union Government. The SUG's Director of Welfare was excited about the program but said the power to endorse lies with the SUG's President.

He tried calling the president to no avail. He requested if I could be around till 8.30pm in the night to which I said no. We later agreed for @tony-duke to be present during his meeting with SUG's President in order to answer any questions the President may have. And assured us he's confident of SUG's endorsement, that we should carry on with preparations.

I then held a brief meeting with FUTO steemian squard. We waved good bye as I left to return to my base, Aba. Thanks for reading and God bless you.

Starting out in any endeavor in life is always not easy. And so expecting otherwise is therefore an indirect expression of unreadiness in pursuit of any worthwhile goals. This has been the core definition of my person. So in any endeavor I find myself, I usually stayed back even when everyone has left to see if there would ever be a chance for success.
