Let me start the concluding part of the series we have been treating for the past five days by saying happy easter to you whenever you are reading this all over the world.
May the power of resurrection of Jesus Christ do wonders in your life.
I would be concluding this series today with the hope of kick starting another beautiful topic tomorrow. Thank you all for your time and support.
Today, we would be considering another factor that is essential to all form of productions. Without it, we can't do any thing meaninful in terms of production
We would be considering LAND as a major factor in Nigeria.
Under Nigeria law, all land belong to the government. But, do you really think that government own all the land?
This can be true and lie at the same time, under the law, government own all the land, but in the real sense of it, the people or the community owns the land. In fact, government must take permission before making use of any land in any community.
If you can't get the land from the government, where then can we get it?
We have so much un-cultivated land as a result of Tanya land tenure system we are practicing in Nigeria.
In the real sense of the matter, land belong to the families, communities and individuals.
This system is one of the limiting factors to our agricultural system as no individual can easily access the land except you belong to the family or community.
Land is a very essential factor in production, except the government see to the distribution of land in Nigeria, our farming sector would still be limited because we don't have access to vast areas of land. The families or community who owns the land keep it as family property and they keep passing it from generation to generation and no one can make use of it except you belong to them
Another important point under our land tenure system is our inability to strictly dedicate some portions of land to agricultural productions
Not all farming type you can practice within the community, for instance, you can't practice poultry farming in a residential environment due to the odour.
Government should ensure that portions of land should be awarded to agriculture where people would not be thinking of relocating in the near future.
If we can make land available for agriculture in Nigeria, it would definitely give strength to our farming sector.
Thank you for taking part in this series, I hope to always deliver the best, watch out for my next teaching series.
