My Promo-Mentors Writing Challenge - Whale Shark Adventure

in #promomentors-challenge7 years ago (edited)

The long day was almost gone out, I'm on vacation leave for a day, I planned to write to something interesting but I can't find a thing but my cooking during our lunch about buttered shrimp which brought to my followers with funny thoughts. I hope.

After that post, I can't think of other else of posting. Being in a day without something else to do, I planned on posting another one but my brain can't think of something else.

Until I came across with @futurethinker's writing challenge about memorable experiences. Thanks to this great future Steemit ambassador for helping us to bring out a topic to post.

I'm up for the challenge!

After several hours of contemplating, I came of something to share with Steemians.

There were a lot of memorable experiences that I have. From childhood to adulthood, each moment seems memorable, thus, create happy thought for me. From playing the only MMORPG game that I experienced to the day I was promoted in my current job.

But the most memorable one, which I and my wife @essiehime will never forget is during our second honeymoon last July 25, 2017. We had it in the beautiful and historical place, Cebu.

From Mactan airport, we travel in a bus for five hours to reach Oslob, Cebu. We booked with several tours packages under our rented transient house AJ's Place, included to that is the diving with whales harks.

two block from AJ's Place is the spot where Oslob is famous of. The whale shark diving.

Whale shark is 42 feet sized filter-feeder, with a count of almost 20 whale sharks present in the beach of barangay Tan-awan. (according to the fisherman who toured us). Which was discovered in the year of 2011, tourists started to flock in the said place.

Despite the huge size of this species, it still harmless to human as its only feeds with shrimp and other small sea species.

The memorable experience started when we started diving in an open sea of the whale sharks.

Both I and my wife doesn't know how to swim, especially in an open sea. So, we relied on the life vest we are wearing to keep us floating. And so as the bamboo that makes the balances the boat where we holding tightly.

But our boatman, who is also our photographer had a challenge of taking us a good picture in a view of the giant whale shark. Unlike other guest and tourists who are amazingly can swim and float without a vest, and can even go near the required space away from the species.

The boatman seems pissed at us already, that he insists us of removing our vest in order to get a perfect view. He assures us, that we will not drown as the thick of the sea water and buoyancy will keep us afloat.

So, with brave heartedly, we removed our vest. Afterall, we also want to have a better picture from this exciting trip and experience.

As the boatman signals, we went under the sea and capture a good shot.

Yes, we cannot let go of the bamboo, as we are still afraid of drowning. lol. We kept our head on dipping the sea water, enjoying the view with the help snorkeling glass to breathe. And voila! Truly, it is an amazing one.

As we are enjoying what we are doing, the fear has later on forgotten. All we see is the beauty that we both first time to experience. Seeing other tourists, all I think is, how come I did not learn to swim. Diving is my frustration because I am afraid that I can't swim. But with that moment, we forgot things. I said that under the sea is the world of no harm. It's like an escape from reality.

That day was a memorable one. And I am glad that day that I had this first time experience together with the most special person in my life. We had fun and had the most wonderful time together.

We even laugh when at times the whale shark swims under our feet and touch @essiehime's feet with its tail. She was frightened everytime it happens. Imagine a fish that is as big as the bus, and in just one wrong movement we can be swallowed. haha.

But no, as per the boatman, this whale shark does not eat a human. Not unless it's very hungry. I don't know if it's real. But another boatman keeps on throwing shrimp to the sea so that the whale sharks will stay full. And to remain the numerous whale sharks in the place to prevent tourists from disappointments.

I can't really forget that experience, even though we freeze our selves because the water gets cold. It is important, as whale sharks only swim in a 21 degrees Celsius of sea water. We just enjoy the time. I strike different poses for us to have something as a souvenir.

The memorable trip does not end there. After the two-hour fun, we went back to our boat. Upon arriving at the shore, we both had a funny feeling. All our body is itchy and we almost scratch our skin off. We even felt dizziness. We said, maybe it is just an aftershock of the sea current.

So we went back to our transient as we still have another tour. While waiting for the next tour, I had a bottle of beer to refresh, while @essiehime lied on our bed. Since our body is still itchy, we decided to take shower, which did not help to remove our itchiness and dizziness.

My dizziness has gone after a bottle of beer, but @essiehime still can't hold it as it getting worst even we drunk a liter of water.

Then we remember that we accidentally swallowed some sea water from the diving. And since the water is fishy because on numerous whale shark swimming, and shrimp scattered all over the water, it is an allergy indeed. Though we both do not have an allergy to fish and crustacean or any allergies. But maybe because it's too many, we had it that time.

In the end, we skipped our next tour which supposed to be in Tumalog Falls, also one of the famous tourist spots in Cebu.

We just rested our selves and just wait for the tour which is in Kawasan Falls.

Nevertheless, that experience was a memorable one. As it is the first time I dived in the open sea without a life vest to keep me floating. I felt putting my self in danger, so as my wife's just to enjoy the experience. And what made it so special is that I had this experience with my wife.

I told to my self, that I will never do that again until I learned to swim without the help of a vest. But who knows, I'm a bit of a hard-headed. hehe.

I did that recently, those whale sharks are huge. I remember yelling out "OMG THEY ARE DINOSAURS... THEY ARE DINOSAURS!!!" Good times. Thanks for sharing.

Hahaha.. yeah, they're huge that we can be swallowed with a simple mistakes of moving near when they slurp their food..

Dinosaur is the correct description how huge they are.

Thanks for dropping by man.

Cool. Very active vacation I think :)
