I relocated to Lagos for my national youth service corps(NYSC) for those of you that would be reading this post I would explain what NYSC means, NYSC is a program initiated by my federal government to strengthen the unity of the country that was its sole aim amidst others. The program is meant for fresh graduates from university who are posted to different geographical zones to serve the motherland, as of when this initiative commenced in 1973 by then head of state it worked cause the posting system was transparent people who were drafted for this had to leave their geographical zone to another sometimes you might be so unlucky to be posted afar north.
Years passed as the rate of insecurity increased loopholes were created in the system where you are left with no other option other than sending gifts to somebody (either monetary or physical items) the four weeks camp experience was worth it tho. So after I left camp the next on my agenda was accommodation little did I know getting accommodation in Lagos is like looking for a needle in a haystack during this period I had to buck with somebody in the nice-looking environment called GBAGADA which is a suburb of the Lagos mainland.
Gbagada is mostly populated by middle-class citizens and has close proximity to the island, the standard of living is moderate with supermarkets and supermart available almost twenty-four hours a day. What makes Gbagada a better choice when seeking accommodation here in Lagos is the security structure, each residential estate located here are fenced with its own security personnel on the ground.
Gbagada is divided into three(3) phases which are:
Gbagada phase one(residential)
Gbagade phase two(residential)
Gbagada phase three(industrial estate/layout)
So i live in Gbagade phase one which was closer to my primary place of assignment (PPA), i was posted by the scheme to electrical firm. so my movement was not a stress as i was against traffic mornings and in the evenings, weekends in gbagada is what i always look forward to because their different points or places for relaxation. My favourites when it comes to food is bukahut, bukahut has different varieties when it come African and intercontinental dishes mehn dishes here is very delicious had couple of dates there too. Religion practising ain't far fetched cause you locate the deeper life headquarters, gician and catholic diocese which are also here base on your beliefs, due to the economic crisis we all faced now which is even more on a third world country there has been a spike in annual rent charge in other words accommodation is a bit more expensive in which you pay sixty dollars (60$) per month as rent to the landlord so security as a bit declined cause my neighbour house was burgled as there has been no update from the estate security. you wonder why pay that much for rent per annum and security is a problem well most persons living in this area chose this place for proximity sake, residents here mostly works on the island and is ideal for you to stay closer to work so no matter how the lagos traffic will be you still get to work early enough. Well my stay here has been a wonderful one with no regreats. 😉
