Freedom of Speech/Opinion vs. Slander/Libel

I'm going to share with you a story about an employee, their former employer, and a Glassdoor review.

The employee, (we'll call him...) Mack, was recently let go from his position and found a new position. In an attempt to protect future employees from the unfair treatment he experienced at the company, (we'll call it...) Really Bad Marketing, Inc., Mack posted an honest review of the company on the employer review site "glassdoor.com".

After a week or two, Mack received a sternly written letter from his former employer's attorney threatening a lawsuit and demanding the removal of the "slanderous" review.

From Mack's point of view, he left his honest opinion about the company.

The employer claimed that Mack was making false statements.

Who is right??

Oh no! What will Mack do?

I think you have to be careful about defamation, but should still try to be honest. This is interesting to me, keep us filled in!
