Imagine that you find some great original content on Steemit and you share it on your other social media accounts. You drive lots of traffic to Steemit and our community grows. This should be rewarded as it benefits the entire Steemit eco system.
I know there are issues and abuse potential, but if there was a legitimate way to reward actual shares it would encourage the growth of the platform.

Totally agree with you. Sharing is one way things get viral, but I think it is because the steemit does not really have the function like making friends in social network like FB.
Also, while counting rewards, steemit currently calculate anything happens within steemit. Because new you don't really have friends in steemit, you might only share with people maybe in FB, Twitter, etc. But sharing it with other social media would need further rules to establish rewarding system. (After all, in other media, bring your "LIKE" is free.)
Good details. These things take time but I wanted to get the idea out there. Some incentive to share outside of the Steem world would be good. I want Steemit to be the real deal because I can't stand the idea of making content for Facebook.
