Could people be psychic. Are we just dismissing a whole array of phenomenons because it doesn't fit into our scientific (our cultural) idea of how reality works. As people say lots of anecdotes doesn’t make data, but is it really wise to discard something because it's only anecdotal. After all our own anecdotal experience (experiments) are the only things we can truly know, even if we can only understand it in a subjective way. I have accumulated quite a few non ordinary experience over the years, no hollywood esque mindfuck, but a steady stream of clues that when paid attention to leads me somewhere I probably would not have found if I dismissed them. I’m assume coincidence in some cases, but not sure which. Even if they are all coincidences, practicing to notice these clues expands the possibilities one has in life. After all even if something seems crazy, believing the universe giving you clues that you should do something that provide quite a get out of jail card to show your rational mind. Whether or not these cosmic whispers are real they always seem to line up to a life I wish to have rather than the life culture is trying to foist upon me
Of course my rational mind sees through this hooey. Since I was a child I was I was fed a steady diet of propaganda making fun of any witchy idea. Even when learning religion, it was always taught as something that happened long ago not really relevant for the modern world. And even that homeopathic dose of of woo was strictly contraband at the schools were real learning occurs. While some kooks and cranks may think the rules of science do not apply to them I know better. Sure traditional cultures from around the world claim to be able to communicate with each other without speech. Sometimes this direct communications seems to go beyond the human realm and go into the animal plant kingdom. So how do so many people become infected with an idea that so at odds with reality. Are traditional people naive . Hardly to survive on a small scale without surplus food one cannot go that long detached from reality. No matter how out there they seem they have to be able to do all of life's chores the next day. No room to be that estranged. I do have a theory.
Could these be natural phenomenons that modern people have to shed in order to not go insane in society. After all whenever people study whether people can predict the future, communicate through telekinesis or whatever nonsense they are using very westernized text subjects. Weird (western educated industrial rich and democratic ) people make roughly 12 percent of the world's population but account for 80 percent sociological studies according to Joe Henrich, and Ara Norenzayan. Furthermore WEIRD people are all connected and able to influence each other cultures through modern technologies, much easier than people living a more indigenous life. So I would argue seeing comparable beliefs among non connected traditional groups is a stronger indicator of a phenomenon reality than shared beliefs among modern people who no matter how of membership in different cultures are all part of the same meta culture . Could what we consider supernatural communication really be something quite natural that is not cultivated properly in modern society
It seems absurd to compare the methods and techniques of communication of thoses who spend their whole life around the some people to those who are perpetually detribalized. Imagine being birth surrounded by the people you will share your entire life with as opposed to a doctor who is out the door as soon as your out of the canal. Imagine the height of emotion in that moment of first breath in contrast to being first cared by overworked nurses who have one eye on the clock. Let's think sharing every meal with the same people throughout your life. Syncing your microbiome level. Let's think about in tuned we would be with each other if we had to have conversations with each other throughout our life. The ever more subtle cues we would pick up on. Could at some point we could pick up on each others feeling almost simultaneously blurring the lines between our thoughts. Could we extrapolate thoughts and experiences these feelings are attracted to. Could we do this even if we were to be physically separated. Could we extend this sensitivity to the animal realm, to the plants. Would we be more attuned with our ancestors.
Perhaps. I really don’t know. I doubt anyone really will. I only wish to point out some contemporary cultural bias that I see that’s going unacknowledged. Modern life brings great benefits to us, but it is not free. We pay with our ever increasing isolation. I don’t think we should over romanticize our indigenous past but to do a proper cost gain analysis we need to take seriously what people living in all places on this technology spectrum are reporting. How can we do this if so much 1st hand data is dismissed as superstitious.
