The term or the usurper of the crowd talked about. This term is mostly used to gossip women who date a married man.
A recent psychological find by teams from England and the United States is trying to answer the reasons behind this phenomenon.
They find that men who already have women or are wanted by other women will automatically increase their appeal.
This is because the man is considered more appropriate, good, and can be a good father.
The research, published in Scientific Reports, Monday tests the theory of partner copying, in which a person is preferred as a couple in the future because of having experience in relation.
By involving 49 women from St. University Andrews, Scotland, they were asked to rate 20 photos of men showing faces and hands from a 0-100 scale to be totally uninterested until very interested. While the control variable is a work of abstract art.
After making a choice, the researchers told the male respondents that the average was chosen by other participants and asked them to re-select.
Interestingly, the participants' answers changed. From here researchers found that the attractiveness of a man increased to 13 percent when participants knew a photo was also chosen by another woman.
"Women seem to mimic the preferences of other women's choices, but this may just be because humans have a general tendency to be influenced by other people's opinions," says Catherine Cross, a researcher in psychology and neuroscience at St. University. Andrews, quoted from the Independent, Tuesday.
"Although these findings may prove our tendency to follow trends, these findings do not yet illustrate how women will act, it's just about how women judge the attractiveness of men from images," Cross told Newsweek, Friday (2/2/2018).
"We are not asking them to make a decision about whether they will approach men or not, I do not want to speculate on how people make the choice to pursue relationships," Cross said.
Research that identifies copying of spouses like this is not the first. Many other studies have also proved that women tend to easily change their choice in men based on other women's opinions.
There is even a study from Oklahoma State University that found that 90 percent of single women are attracted to men who are in a serious relationship, and only 59 percent of women who remain interested in the same man and still single.
This pair's choice of replacement is allegedly related to the psychological tendency to consider the opinions of others when making decisions.
Cross explained, couples copying techniques provide the advantage to think about the opinions of others related to information as a guide to do something.
"The choice of others may help us to choose a safe haven, a good place to eat, a good job, or a trustworthy person," Cross said.
Cross also said women tend to copy other women's choices in terms of men because humans have a tendency to be influenced by the opinions of others
