Another hugely thought-provoking piece Abigail!
I see there are many engaging comments for you to respond to.
I liked the sentence that @nikolanikola extracted, but will comment on the final paragraph relating to @insight-out's metaphor.
I have met (and dated) people in the past who were adamant that one should compare to others, and looking back on my perception of their personality:
The self that when threatened by the out-performance of another loses sight of its own positive image. Personally, I believe that it is this loss (of positive self-concept) that leads some people to act upon their envy in a negative manner.
This makes a lot of sense.
So much to consider in this post and the comments, I could spend far too much time pondering it all!
Thank you again for continuing to add your insight to the Steem blockchain, and have a lovely weekend.
Asher
Oh Gosh Asher, I cannot imagine how demanding it must be to have a close relationship with someone with that sort of mindset. My experience tells me that this highly correlates with low levels of satisfaction!
There truly is a lot to consider when it comes to envy, as it can be analysed from so many different angles and perspectives. I am particularly fascinated by its neurobiological basis :)
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. It means a lot to me.
All the best to you always!
Take care :)
