Nothing.
Nothing happened.
It's amazing to realize that there are very few things you miss when they are out of your life - especially newsletters.
The fear I had was I fear of missing out.
What if I missed a specific nugget of information that could save my life or my business?
The truth is, you are always missing out.
To be sure you aren't missing out, subscribe to every single business newsletter you come across.
That will swamp you to death.
Why too much info is a bad thing
It's hilarious how the saying "too much of a good thing can be a bad thing" is rarely applied to learning.
There's a term in personal development called "analysis paralysis".
It's a state whereby the user has too much info and too much choice that they end up doing - nothing (also known as the paradox of choice).
The next time you find yourself citing "research" as an excuse to not take action, bear in mind it could just be information overload.
The marketing can get to you
I'm in the marketing space and I read some amazing email copy.
The pro copywriters are masters at guilt-tripping you into buying products you never knew you need until you read their email like... 5 minutes ago.
Too many marketing emails (which 99% of them are) can mess up your thinking.
All the fearmongering and insecurity-inducing copy does wonders to your self image.
You get the simple life back
Unsubscribing from 99% of the newsletters made my life so much simpler.
The time I spent on reading emails went down, waaay down.
I had more time to create things instead of consuming them.
Less time "Selecting All" and "Mark as Read".
I just removed them f*ckers from my inbox and the world became sunnier.
Call to Action
Realize that you have a lot more control over your life than you think.
Today, we're just talking about showing who's boss over your inbox.
Here are the action steps to do right after you finish reading this -
Unsubscribe from the emails you have not read in a while.
Let's be honest, when you have a crapload of emails, you just look at the name of the sender and read them. For me, that would be Ramit Sethi.
Consciously remove everyone else from your inbox.
Don't worry if you feel the urge to get their emails later on, you can always re-subscribe.
