Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk – putting knowledge into action

This combination of words is very cool. I like how they sound. I really do. But what is even more great about this words is the meaning they have. Because in my humble opinion this is the reason why some people do it and some not.

The photo above is from the movie Full Metal Jacket. The director of this movie is Stanly Kubrick. One of the greatest movie directors of all time. He has directed movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut. Each of this movie is a masterpiece in its own.

And in the movie Full Metal Jacket, he has this scene, where two boys are having a quarrel, and the one says, “You Talk the Talk, but Do You Walk the Walk”. Implying is he only going to talk or maybe fight. The scene is a great one, and cool. It got stack in my head and its been there.

Now, this is not about boys quailing or fighting, it is about people actually do things. Because we all heard from every corner of the world what should be done. And in todays age of internet and fast communication and sharing information, the words of wisdoms are all around us. Some of them are memes and they are put on the wall.

Everybody talk and talk, sharing some knowledge. A lot of the cases some good knowledge, something that they have read in a good book recently. But is this talking and sharing information and knowledge procuring something. Here on Steemit also there are a lot good information, and a lot talk the talk.

Do people actually act on it. NO. In the large number of situation people don’t act on some recently find out wisdom. Or to say they don’t walk the walk. People just here the information, and from the next moment they are back to being them self. Not changing something in their behavior.

Way is this? Why people don’t do the right things? Why they don’t act for something good and better for them self?

Well knowledge is one thing, putting that knowledge to work is another. To put knowledge to work, implement it in real life situation usually requires a change in the persons behavior.

Here we come to the habits. People are creature of habits. That is how mother nature build us. We do repeatedly the same things, so it is required less energy. We are lazy in a way in order to preserve energy. And if someone is thinking through everything he does in his daily life he will go crazy. It is just not possible to think before you do all your small daily activities.

It is all about building good habits.

Good habits are gold. And the bad habits are dragging you down. It is about automating your behavior in a good way. To start building good habits, that in time would not be hard to do. It wouldn’t feel like putting effort, because they are habits and you are doing them without thinking.

But as this may sound obvious, it is actually not an easy thing to do. And this is thing. We all know what is good. But we don’t do it always. There is no need for overthinking what to do. Do the obvious things.

Everyone knows that credit is bad, but very few have the control to not spend money that they don’t poses. Everyone knows that physical activity is a good thing. But it is hard to do it on a regular basis. And the lists goes one and one. A lot of obvious things, but hard to do it.

If one thing is for sure is that fast fixes never work. Don’t try to change things or create a good habit overnight.

Start small, very small. Something that is easy to do and keep improving step by step.

Lets say exercise in the morning. Start with stretching, waiving hands. Do this a couple of months, regular, and the add some more serious workouts. And this is a looong process. It requires consistency.

Slow and steady is the best way forward.

All the best.

Habits rule all,

This is solid advice, and no matter what you do, when something is new it requires you to break a normal pattern and replace it with something better suited to your life.

I think we can all take this advice to heart, but it is the actions we take that guide our success.

Great read!

Glad you like it. Thanks for commenting. And yes we can all make small steps forward.
