When things go wrong, it’s easy just to hide and shut down the outside world. But the paths of least resistance often lead to even more problems.
This is a small list of things you can do to get yourself back on track. The trick is to find something that allows you to get back in touch with yourself and the people around you.
Find a new hobby
Have you ever wanted to play the guitar, draw portraits, or practice yoga? There’s plenty of online how-tos and manuals that can help get started. Maybe you can even find new friends and some feeling of accomplishment. Save just 30 minutes every day for your new hobby, and no time you’ll be playing the riff of “Smoke on the Water.” ;-)o
Talk to your friends or family
Yes, this can also be a hobby. Many times we forget to get in touch with the ones we most value. Just talk about the simple things of life — we are social animal after all, and sharing some thoughts can be excellent to the soul.
Tweets and Facebook likes are no substitutes for the real thing!
Write a journal
Dear diary...
If you think you can’t write, just try improvised writing: for 10 or 15 minutes write everything that comes to your head. It doesn’t matter if you only write random words and nonsense. Just put it all on the paper. After a couple of weeks of doing this, you’ll see the words will start to come out naturally.
After you get the hang of it, you’ll notice that writing things down is a great way of making sense of your thoughts.
Do some exercise
Exercise is healthy and releases a lot of energy. Just don’t overdo it — some people get obsessed with physical fitness and become slaves to what should be a pleasant activity.
If you’re lazy like me, just take walks. It’s also healthy, and you don’t need to run, jump, and do all of those exhausting things.
Do nothing
Really! Just relax. Take a nice hot bath, sit in the sunshine, enjoy being alive.
Read a book
Reading is both fun and intellectually stimulating. Do you prefer heavy and complex literature, fun and light-hearted short stories, or maybe adventure books written long long time ago? There is a world of imagination and dreams waiting for you.
Decorate you house
Get rid of old useless stuff laying around the house. Hang some beautiful pictures on the walls. Even with a tight budget, you can make your home a nicer place to live.
Help Someone
Help at a food bank, or maybe visit your grandparent at the retirement home. Helping others will make you see your problems in a new light.
