Do we feel lately social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even WhatsApp is filled with a variety of excitements that make us sometimes feel uncomfortable? If indeed we feel that way, then what you feel is also much experienced by my patients.

Lately, many of my patients' problems are related by the uncomfortable news they read on social media. Some of them are very much affected by the often confusing and confusing information flow of what social media can get. Some examples of cases are below.

Psychotics due to social media

My patient is a man in his 40s. The patient was taken by his family because of the recent seeming confusion and began to talk upset about the situation he imagined would happen. This condition is triggered by the news the patient sees in relation to the recent big demos.

The information flow he gets from social media aggravates what he got before from the news on television. Mixed opinions in social media plus the untrue news (hoax) that he read makes him more confused.

Until one day he told the family a theory of saving the country in which he would lead the rescue effort. He believes only he is capable of doing so and is very confident of his efforts.

Background as a casual trader makes people who hear the story to be worried the patient has experienced psychiatric problems. When examined the patient is known to experience the problem of delusions / superstitions of greatness.

During a patient interview he excitedly said that he could save the country from the devastation caused by the civil war. Diagnosis leads to an acute psychotic condition that may not be a paranoid schizophrenia in the future (new patients experience this for less than a month).

Post-traumatic stress disorder that reappears

This middle-aged woman comes with great fear. The news from the social media he read about the recent turmoil of the demo and the hoaxes he read about the Chinese made traumatic images in 1998 come back to mind.

The patient said that in 1998 he was on the road almost suffering from the impact of mass violence. It was after the events of 1998 he underwent psychiatric treatment due to traumatic problems that he experienced.

The current instability of the situation and the sheer number of maze and hoaxing news are related to the present condition as being the trigger for her. On the one hand he did not want to read it, but on the other hand he found it difficult to avoid the information is very massive and excessive in social media and even WhatssApp family group that he followed.

Anxiety-like symptoms of anxiety reappear and often come.

Wisely using social media

I do feel that the current flow of information is excessive and sometimes we ourselves are unable to cope with the swift flow of information. So much information makes it difficult to sort out what is right which is wrong. Which is the right thing that happens which is the artificial information that was deliberately made for a particular interest.

Unfortunately everyone seems to want to follow-up to spread the news and information that is not necessarily true. Sometimes it's just because you want to say news updates.

It's no wonder we're starting to see conflicts in Facebook's comment field and mention Twitter. Even in WhatssApp group that we have just a lot of the end of the noisy because of mutual opinions about the topic posted.

There are several tips that can be done to be more wise to use social media

a. Use social media to make friendships, give positive news and establish silahturahim with fellow.

b. If you get broadcast news do not be too easy to believe and immediately continue, check first or just broadcast it stops until you just. Do not feel not update or miss the news by not forwarding the news. Sometimes not all information should be disseminated is not it?

c. Some news that contains elements of racial intolerance and if it can cause conflict of disputes between friends or relatives better filtered first. Be wise in spreading the word like this because maybe not everyone has the same thoughts as us.

d. If the social media on Facebook and Twitter may not always have to comment. Take care of ourselves to be wiser in making comments and keeping our fingers forward the news that seems to cause conflict later on.

e. One definition of Healthy Soul is our ability to think positively about ourselves and others. Get used to thinking so then we can get better in this life.

Hopefully this short article useful. Let us keep our unity and unity.
