Controlled by a Prison of Fear

in #psychology7 years ago

There are some basic fears that are deeply rooted in our subconscious or unconscious, possibly encoded at a DNA level or as an archetypal construct in our physiology. They are ancient, deep-seated aspects of former ways of life from thousands of years of evolving. They serve the initial purpose of being there for our protection: for self-preservation to ensure our survival. But these fears can be used against us.

Primal Fears

A basic primal fear is the fear of darkness. The darkness hosts the unknown which creates a sense of fear because we don't know what is lurking. Predators can be lurking in the darkness, ready to harm us. Darkness was a domain for things to take life, while the day was the time of life. Warmth and light grows food, opens flowers and shows us what is happening around us. We can see in the day and better protect ourselves from dangers, like hole, cliffs and predators. The darkness invites predators. The sun is a symbol of light, life and power contrasted the darkness, death and wekness of the dying sun.

Fear of predators is another ingrained primal fear. We don't have the same predators to fear in the modern age as we did in the past. In the past it was of toothed and clawed other animals lurking at night, ready to take us back to their caves and devour us. Now we don't fear non-human animals, but our own fellow man. The night time still carries a fear of being preyed upon by criminal activity. We think of being robbed if we go out at night, or specifically for women there is the danger of being raped.

Fear of chaos is another deep-seated fear. The darkness and the unknown are symbols for chaos, because the unknown is an unfamiliar chaotic realm that can have anything as opposed to the order of familiarity of things we do know about. If we lived without centralized authority and power over our lives, we would have to contend with the burden of chaotic freedom and responsibility. Many people fear the chaos of not being protected and made safe by others, rather than being responsible to ensure their own safety voluntarily as a a united people who are capable of doing such.

We also have a fear of abandonment, as being left alone is to be left in darkness, in a state of chaos ripped away from the attachment and order of life as we knew it as we are let go or rejected into dark isolation. We want to be protected from the dangers of the darkness and predators and chaos that comes with it. We want centralized authority to make us safe. The fear of being without government, police or military int he world is strong in many people, that they fight to protect the system and way of life we currently have. Big-brother or father dominator is desired to keep us safe and protected. We want external control and are willing to give up our frights and freedoms to have it. "Please don't abandon me and make me fend for myself, I need you to protect me from all of the predators out there"... the fear is strong.

Prison of Fear

These 4 fears (darkness, predators, chaos and abandonment) can keep us locked into a prison of the mind. Knowledge of these primal fears can allow others to manipulate us in ways we aren't even aware of.

Controllers know we fear the darkness and being preyed upon. Most people would prefer to hand over their rights and have centralized authority control them than live in the discomfort of fear of the unknown, darkness and chaotic potentials in life that comes with freedom. People fear being attacked, preyed upon or harmed by "terrorists" lurking around any corner, and allow draconian governmental measures to be enacted, like military in the streets.

Responsibility

But never is the solution to arm the people to defend themselves physically or psychologically. No, they must keep people in fear and dependent on the centralized power and authority, rather than let people take authority and power over their own lives. Most people want someone else to solve the problems for them, and don't want that responsibility themselves. They want a controller class of police, military and government to grant them safety, rather than create safety themselves. But the cost is a reduction in all of our freedoms.

We don't want to protect ourselves, so we create institutions to do it for us, to protect us from ourselves and the unraised irresponsible attitude to not do the work to learn how to be more responsible. Then instead of seeing the problem we have created, how we create our self-inflicted suffering, we just excuse the "bad apples" in the police, military or government, as if the institution isn't itself the problem, rather than an actual solution to our woes.

People want to avoid taking responsibility for their lives and the system we have created in part because these fears own them and prevent them from seeing things clearly. They can't think outside of the program, acting as unquestioning robots.

Controllers

The control of centralized authority is a false order, not true order. Externalized control based in fear of chaos, predators and being abandoned by the father-mother-nanny protection of big government. The fear leads to confusion about what to do, and that brings in the desire to try to control which creates chaos.

Controlling dominators like soldiers carry out the whims of other controllers, yet thinking they are in control while they are pawns in a game, ready to be sacrificed to win the game. The are being played and made fools, yet can't admit to admit what they are doing is wrong. They create chaos into the world, and think they are creating order. Order through chaos is the motto these dark controlling consciousnesses follow. They want to create their own twisted false order after the chaos they also bring.

Having to deal with the chaos of predators lurking in the darkness means letting go of the alpha-male father figure protector of centralized authority. Things are a mess, and begging other to deal with the mess while we give away our responsibility, power an freedom isn't a real solution. We are avoiding the work that is required for the betterment of our individual and collective evolution.

Survival and Self-Preservation

Survival and self-preservation are at the root of these fears. The survival instinct is deep and strong, and it leads us to stay trapped ion fears that control us. Controllers stay in control by knowing most people will do anything for survival. This isn't a philosophy of life, but an instinct that keeps us from evolving towards being better versions of ourselves. Self-preservation is not the highest law, contrary to what they want us to believe.

We can become better as a species and as individuals if we would let go of our fears and put moral principles of truth first. The responsibility belong on all our shoulders, not exported and out-sourced to a special group who have more rights than the rest of us just because it's "easier" or more "comfortable" to avoid that responsibility in life.

You're right about this one, our current system today is designed to feed the fear of people to keep them tamed and manipulated, it's sad to think that this is our current system, but many people still trap into a comfort zone that they didn't know they've been grilled by those on the top or the architect of the system called democracy. Our environment nowadays is like a farm instead of a jungle in the wild.

As a Soldier I was never under any illusion nor a fool . I have saved many lives . causing chaos is part of the job . My job was not to create order . That's the job of the elected leaders that the people of the world elected . I would love to see a world where no soldiers were required . No one knows that better than a Soldier . Until the people start electing officials that are more order oriented instead of personnel gain the need for soldiers will be required .
Until then lets put the blame where it should be and hold those accountable

This is the heart and soul of your post . We need to keep pushing and pushing this . If people would just take a little responsibility , just a little it would make an enormous effect on our society

true story. beautiful piece of work

Yup, we need to also point the finger at ourselves :/

I largely agree with this. If one looks at the drug war, he or she can see this issue in action. We all know weed isn't going to cause society to crash or turn children into addicts but every time there is a push for progress these fears (which fit nicely into your model) are used to stir up opposition.

These false fears aren't the end of it though. People's pride seem to play a role. That is to say, once people buy into the fear, they are told that they are correct to be afraid and that makes them feel righteous which cements the lies in their minds.

Yeah, can't admit wrong, too prideful :P

we are always controlled by the prison we build in our mind

These 4 fears (darkness, predators, chaos and abandonment) can keep us locked up in a prison of the mind. The knowledge of these primary fears can allow others to manipulate us in ways we do not even know.

To free ourselves from our own fears is not an easy task but it is possible, we must strive to believe in ourselves, to value our virtues and abilities, it is the best way to know where and what to stand, but fear must go out in most of your way ( you will never eradicate it 100%) but the idea is to control it and for you to be the one who takes control of your life, a good step is to identify our greatest fears, already identified the path is easier, we will know what we must attack as a priority, so we must only propose what we want and fight with it, whether it is attacking the root of our fears, happy night

Indeed, fear is useful, not 100% removal, but learn and understand it in order to not be controlled by it so much.

beautiful writing

@krnel Another informative and interesting article. I very much look forward to your posts each day. Thank you for shedding light into this darkening world.

Believe it or not we all fear for something in our life!
it could be a shadow, loneliness, darkness, it could be any animal like dog, snake, lion and that's the truth we can't deny!
