Don't blame yourself. The need to control things had always been inside us. Some say it's our nature, others' our birthright. And boy, did you start wanting to control things since we're young.
Ever cried to try and manipulate your parents into doing things for you? Ever held your favourite toys close to you so others won't be able to take it? Ever withheld information so you would have some control over others?
So you see, it's our natural instinct to want to have control, or dominance, over our outside world. And that's also where disappointment lies. We can manipulate our surrounds as much as we want, or hold on to things to keep it in a certain way, or hide the truth for as long as we want.
You and I know life just doesn't always work out the way we want to.
Eventually, we will lose control, and that's where all hell breaks lose.
If there's one thing you want to control, control yourself. Truth it, it's the only factor you can ever manage. Most of the time, when you succeed in controlling others, well, half of it was due to manipulation, and the other half is just luck.
So in any situation, always ask yourself,
"Which part of this have I true control over?"
And then you will realise while you can plan and strategise all you want, your true control is over your own mind and your attitude towards the world.
Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3 minute reads.
From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.
Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.
Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)
Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?
Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:
- Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
- Upvote (like) other people contents
- Comment on other people's posts
- Have discussions, share opinions etc!
Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!
The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!
Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome
So many people are power crazy, and you are right. Don’t try to control others, just control yourself. Thanks for the morning motivation.
Power hungry people are sometimes the easiest to be manipulated though, because you know what "carrot" to tangle in front of them.
Your post reminded me of @williamsyee had this quote wallpaper on his phone. We can't control the things happening around us, but we can always control how we think and act on it.
Let's say,
You can always choose to comdemn your company, your life OR change your viewpoint that this is an opportunity for you to switch to a new life.
This is a very powerful tool to take charge of yourself.
What's your experience in taking control over yourself in the midst of adversity?
Well, @williamsyee is always the dude I copy my contents from, haha!
Usually, I take a step back first, especially when there's emotion involved. I'm always reminded of what my Master taught me (and my Mom would drill in me over the years) to focus on the present. Because you see, when you do focus on the present, there are no emotions. Any anger or hatred or anxiety felt because of an incident, happened in the past, even if it's just one second ago. When you become one with the present, you will have amazing clarity, and there's where I often mind my solutions to problems.
Hope it makes sense?
Both also don't makes sense LOL
You mean @williamsyee copy your content??
I don't understand the part "when you do focus on the present, there are no emotions"
What you did to become one with the present? How you feel that at that moment?
Sometimes reality does not match expectations, and that's life, wheels keep spinning. For me, always believe, only I can change my life. That is, I have to try, and it takes a process, a struggle, passes every obstacle, no success instantly. The important thing is to have the spirit and keep fighting for the better.
Thanks @maverickfoo for sharing interesting information.
Super agree with you, @fernandes. Success is a journey, and like any journey, there's ups and downs. Like you said, we just gotta push on!
I love all of your little experiments and tips on here!! So you just read 3-minute things to motivate yourself each day?
Hi there! Actually not just read, is I have to write every morning, a piece that takes about 3 minutes to read.
I documented the process here though, although that was about 30 days ago. Looks like the streak is still on going... :) Wish me luck!
Good morning @maverickfoo
Hehe, I'm glad to be back here since I'm done with my examinations.
Thanks for this great reminder about how we can only truly control ourselves. I might have forgotten this, and have been trying to control others or say create a change in them, without necessarily looking at myself.
I guess that slogan change begins with me comes into play here. Gosh, I've got a lot to catch up with as this is the 53rd installment of the Mini motivation series, I'll be going through them one by one as time permits.
Keep being amazing Sir, you've been truly inspirational.
Hi there! How's the exams? All good, I hope?
Yeah, thanks so much for asking. There were great, just finished my papers.
I'm a simple man, I see a quote by Marcus Aurelius, I upvote
It is so true and well said ...everything is under a control of an individual .
It is always gis mind if a person make it in his mind that he need to accomplish a certain goal he wud end up doing that...everybody knows it but only those become successful who have great will on themselves ..
They can somehow manage to make themselves believe that what ever they have in their head they are gonna achieve it ...
In my opinion being optimistic in life is very important ..
Great post man..
Freedom to choose your reaction in any given situation is one of our most powerful abilities'. Yet, that freedom can only be exercised by those who remain conscious of their inner workings. A skill I've been working on regularly these days. And there are just so many opportunities every day to practice the art ;) Although I've noticed that sometimes not making any choice, but just remaining a witness to the event also is helpful. Which is also a choice by the way ;) Choosing to be a witness. Thanks for the reminder on exercising your right to choose! Cheers!
