I would certainly be open to taking it if a trained psychotherapist thought it would be helpful. I've been around people who were on it and never saw anything alarming. They just seemed happy.

That's right. It just releases serotonin in large quantities in the brain, as well as possibly increasing the levels of oxytocin, which has been referred to as the "love" hormone. There is nothing inherently dangerous about it, at least not when compares to alcohol and nicotine. However, if people are not educated on its possible dangers, they could get dehydrated and have a heat stroke. But with any drug, knowledge of the side effects is super important for responsible recreational drug use.
