"If love is genuine, why does it still hurt?
If love is lost then why should it be found?
If love gives meaning then why is it still forgotten?"
Me and my partner had a very simple Valentine's Day celebration. We ran some errands, ate dinner together, bought our favorite flavor of icecream and listened to a show band's rendition of classical romantic songs inside the mall where we were strolling. It might not be a lavish celebration as seen on movies or television series but the experience of just staying with each other is priceless.
Though we have been in a relationship for six long years ,we are still attracted to engage in such a romantic celebration. It's great to see that the world could be filled with love all in a single day.
As a woman,I am always enticed to be part of the crowd so as to celebrate this festival of love. I always tell my partner to experience the hustle and bustle of the city to commemorate Valentines but what he said about hearts day is still cemented on my mind up until this day.
"Darling, the reason why I dont usually look forward every Valentine's Day is because for me everyday should be Valentines. Love should not only expressed on February 14 but on each day of our beautiful lives."
His words left me dumbfounded. I realized that I was too programmed by society nowadays. I am very glad that he helped me listen to what's important rather than paying attention to all the noise that surrounds me. Love is what makes us impeccable but we need to remember that we should express it on a daily basis.
Love & Attraction, A Psychological Inquiry
Does love give meaning to our existence?
We are always fixated on the idea that love could answer all our questions regarding with our individuality. It is the main reason why we are always on a journey to find someone who could complete us based on our inner humane desires. Even if it would break us down and make us fall on our knees, without us realizing it we would just dust it off and love again. Is it really the key to our existence? Or a charade of never ending pain and disappointment.
Is our concept of love brainwashed by society's norms?
If we are going to put love in a nutshell, love is about interpersonal pleasures and intimate attachments. You might be hypnotized by it's power but you are deliberately allowing yourself to do so. Since it releases strong mixed feelings of attraction & an invisible appetite for romance. Which makes you long for more. But society is slowly taking out these definitions and replacing it based on it's so called standards. It makes us fall into it's trap that love should exhibit absolute perfection. That it should be flawless and unblemished. But reality is not as easy as that.
Or is love an excuse for our sexual desires?
Sex is a physiological need. Same with the basic needs of food, water or shelther it motivates us to keep on living and to psychologically survive. It might be the reason why we are confusing love with intimacy. Maybe it is also a trick of life for us to reproduce and multiply. Our hunger for sex is colliding with our thoughts about love. That when you are wrapped in the world of affection it is obligatory that you fulfill one's thirst for intimacy. Is sex really aligned with the need of belongingness or are we just puzzling ourselves?
Love is definitely enchanting. It lures us to think that love is the answer to everything that we wish for.
It is not surprising that we throw ourselves to the pit of love since it's a very common natural circumstance. We are a product of love and attraction so it is expected that we would also procreate an offspring that embraces the same notion. The true essence of love and attraction is slowly sinking into oblivion.
Let us not forget what love really means. It does not only focus on intimacy or lust. Nor does it force you to fall in love because of acquiring material possessions or wealth. Do not confuse yourself for love and reproduction or love with biological procreation.Do not be enthralled with perfectionistic love being shown in media.
Reveal spoiler
Genuine love can be seen everywhere. From walking on the sandbar with your kid. Or helping an old woman cross the street. Watering the plants. Taking your family out for dinner. Giving your chicken sandwich to your classmate who didn't have food during lunch. Or singing your son's favorite lullaby as he slowly falls asleep. Love is everywhere if we just open our eyes.
Love is not perfect and it will never be. It will make you or break you. It will captivate you at first but it would also disgust you at the end. It has millions of flaws and shortcomings. But love is naturally like that,it is perfect with all it's scars. True love is about kindness, trust, commitment and honesty. Let us not cast off it's true beauty away from our hearts forever...
What really is Love? Would you dare to find out?
Love & Light this Valentines,
@sakura1012
I think that telling someone "I love you" is like saying "you are a wonderful, precious human being to me". Therefore, if we feel loved, we feel that someone recognizes and confirms our value as a complete being. The expression of love is, in this sense, the most pleasant outside confirmation of our value that we can get.
With regards to love and sex, I believe that they can (and it's most enjoyable that way), but don't have to be connected (they can be enjoyable even separately).
Cheers! : )
Such wonderful words @lifenbeauty. Guess you have a blooming lovelife. Love is really complicated though, its like a never ending roller coster ride.

Ah love, that thing called love <3 Love is when Mama still fixes my baon for school even when I'm 31. Love is when Papa drives his trisikad from home to school just to make sure I am safe. Love is when Maxxi and Cookie wiggle their tails and just smell and kiss me when I'm finally home. Love is the laughter and tears and stories and fries and ketchup shared by friends. Love is when my student gives her sweetest smile for a new dish she's cooked. Love is when I wake up knowing that there is a God that sees the beauty in my imperfections. Love is when I can't stop thinking about him even if I'm not with him. Love is loving myself and just giving love to others no matter what time of day. Love is...I can't really explain. But I can feel it like air.
Maam thank you for your amazing words. It gives light on the various definition of love. Though it could be explained in various ways. Love still depends on the person holding on it. Whether he/she will keep it for himself/herself or if that love will be shared to the world.
