Parenting is a tough gig one way or the other. The balance between the love of your child , the desire to protect them and the necessity of moulding some sense of moral guidelines that fit into the society that surrounds us. I have seen kids neglected in the goal of free parenting and down right abused in the most extreme authoritative cases of parenting. Most of us try our best to go somewhere toward the middle.

Absolutely. And "free" parenting should not be confused with neglect. A parent can be emotionally attached to their child and connected, but also practice universality of caring for that child and being there for him or her.
