Ultimamente tem havido muito “hype” em torno do EOS. Mas você sabe porque toda essa expectativa em torno dele?
Simples, porque o EOS é um Steem que suporta contratos inteligentes, os famosos smart contracts que fizeram a fama e o sucesso do Ethereum. E quais as vantagens disso? Basicamente resolver o problema sério de escalabilidade do Ethereum.
A moeda Ethereum foi um sucesso total devido aos smart contracts, que nada mais são que códigos que rodam em cima da blockchain automaticamente quando uma certa condição é atingida, e faz as transferências de recursos que foram programadas. Isso faz com que contratos "ajam sozinhos" sem precisar da interferência humana. Assim você não precisa confiar em terceiros pra saber que o contrato será cumprido comforme acordado. Basta as partes envolvidas concordarem em colocar aquele código no blockchain e pronto, já era. Ele será executado conforme planejado, faça chuva ou faça sol. Não tem choro nem vela que faça o acordado voltar atrás, uma vez que ele foi incorporado à blockchain.
Então o Ethereum foi um sucesso tão grande que simplesmente congestionou a blockchain que já chegou no seu limite de transações por segundo suportadas. Está sofrendo do mesmo problema de escalabilidade que o Bitcoin também sofre. E isso era esperado, visto que o Ethereum é basicamente um Bitcoin com a adição dos smart contracts.
Mas todos nós conhecemos o Steem, que é uma moeda que nem de longe sofre com escalabilidade, embora seja a moeda mais utilizada do momento em termos de transações por dia.
O Steem suporta mais de um milhão e meio de transações por dia e não está nem perto da sua capacidade total. Enquanto isso o Bitcoin e o Ethereum com bem menos que isso já sofrem com escalabilidade.
Então surgiu a ideia do Dan Larimer, o criador do Steem: “porque não criar uma moeda com a capacidade do Steem mas com suporte para smart contracts?”. Foi aí que surgiu o EOS. E ele também traz algumas outras vantagens em relação ao Ethereum como por exemplo ser multi-threaded, ou seja, suporta execuções em paralelo.
Bem, acho que depois dessa breve introdução ao EOS deu pra entender porque há grande expectativa em relação a ele. Sem dúvida é um grande concorrente do Ethereum, e a julgar pelo sucesso que o Ethereum teve com os smart contracts, é de se esperar que parte desse sucesso seja transferido para o EOS. Vamos aguardar pra ver.

Uma boa introdução ao EOS, principalmente ao público mais leigo.
Um fato que eu achei curioso foi a citação do Dan Larimer.
Eu pensava que o EOS tinha sido criado por devs chineses que observaram que o problema da testemunha na ETH e pensaram numa solução para isso.
Não sabia que as implementações da STEEM tiveram influência no design da EOS
Tiveram sim porque o EOS assim como o Steem são ambas criação do Dam Larimer.
